I love the xianle quartet not just because of found family vibes, but because they're the last remnants of their own bygone era that they're the only ones to really remember anymore, and they're the ones who choose to stay. I love them because they're a bunch of stooges who always end up being ridiculous - arguing, fighting, sniping at each other. I love them because all of their real disagreements and issues with each other have become less serious over time, or they've eventually been talked through.

Xie Lian and Feng Xin and Mu Qing are Complicated Besties and Hua Cheng only tolerates anyone who isn't Xie Lian, but he also knows those two, shares a history with them, and the three of them all trust that when push comes to shove, any one of them would put Xie Lian first, and they all know to go to Hua Cheng if Xie Lian needs help. Also, because of it all, Hua Cheng might snipe at FXMQ but he's also just as likely to drag them out of danger himself (even if it's just "I knew gege would, I'm just saving him the time" or supporting Xie Lian's efforts).

They really feel- real? Fleshed out? Human? With this sense that they really do know each other that well by the story. Fire-forged friends (even counting the couple), having been through things no one else could relate to.

What an amazing bunch of dumb idiots. I love them.
