zooming in on that last bit we see of everyone during the outro pan out gives us a lot of insight on their reactions- especially breadhead's and mud's which we don't see during the hatching scene.

based on body posture and the expression I can make out, Mud's obviously PISSED; we'll have to wait and see to what extent. really hard to tell which direction it'll go with him either becoming suspicious or just pissed that it didn't go to plan- possibly not caring about the fake human egg, just that he wasn't in on the lie.

breadhead just looks timid and scared. I know it's already a common hc that he already Knows so his reaction of fear makes sense.

ken is really interesting. he just looks so.. sad and resigned. it'll be really interesting to see how he handles all of this.

all in all intriguing as fuck and I can't wait to see how this plays out.

p.s. I hope Mel keeps the angel hatchling as a little pet that thing is so cute.

The Gaslight District can realistically end in four ways:

Ending one: Mel dies onscreen and the cycle restarts. Not technically an ending because she will be back as a baby someday.

Ending two: Mel does not die onscreen, but does not become an immortal, meaning that she dies somewhere in the future we can't see.

Ending three: Mel brings about the end times and destroys society as we know it. She may or may not die in the process.

Ending four: Mel becomes immortal and breaks the cycle, ruining the whole prophecy because she can no longer die, but is no longer human.

Of course, there could be a secret fifth ending. Or multiple of these could happen.

A Random The Gaslight District/Breadhead Theory

Alright, so out of the cast seen so far, I’d have to say the character I’m looking forward to the most would have to be Breadhead. Now, there were a couple shots in the trailer during my first time watching featuring him that stood out to me, particularly this one…

And this one…

Now, these two individual frames have given me a few thoughts regarding everyone’s favorite yeast golem:

The bottles wedged into Breadhead’s, well, head in the first image are filled with alcohol. My line of thought being that, given Breadhead is made of his namesake which is intern made using yeast and that yeast is a key component in the fermentation process of brewing, he is capable of consuming different materials, but only truly needs an intake of yeast to sustain himself.

With the above in mind and the fact Breadhead is explicitly called a “yeast golem” in background material and not a zombie like the rest of his family, I get the distinct feeling that he could be the only member of the cast that truly runs the risk of facing serious consequences regarding major injury or even potential death, which would really standout against everyone else being immortal.

Combining these two thoughts, I wonder if Breadhead could use an intake of yeast or yeast based products as a means to fuel his body’s recovery/regeneration.

Finally, we move on to the second image, where Breadhead is suddenly depicted as being large enough to pickup and devour a car whole. While I’ve seen a few people speculate this to be some form of “dramatization” or “imagine spot” meant to play him up as the Smiling Dead’s “brute”, I am of the mind that he actually has the ability to grow larger, much like how in real life the dough used to make bread rises and expands. Aside from this little bit of real life bread information, the only other thing to back up this line of thought is the fact that Breadhead is easily the most inconsistently scaled character of the cast, as seen in these images where he stands next to his family:

Overall, I’m really looking forward to this show releasing next month and seeing whether or not my inane ramblings are completely baseless and off the mark as they’ve been in the past or if I somehow managed to piece together some details with what little directly stated information we’ve been given. Whatever the case, likes and reblogs are greatly appreciated and I’m curious as to what other’s think about this stream of consciousness I’ve managed to crank out.

This is going to be a stretch, but what if Patience was the one who fished Jack out of the water? They seem to be a detective of some sort… and using a former member of the Smiling Dead would help them get closer to capturing them.

So I know I made an entire post saying I don't think Breadhead would just be fine with Mel being human (and I still think some people are babifying him over this), but I may have thought too hard and I'm now coming to realize that the theory that he knows already and is choosing to remain quiet actually has quite a bit of credence. So I'm gonna swallow my words a bit and go over the evidence.

We have this very nifty image (taken from @pandathug, sorry for the tag) that shows a comic summarizing how the Smiling Dead got into this situation, placed specifically around Breadhead looking at his sister. Remember that all details in this pilot were placed there intentionally, and so there's got to be a reason they put it around Breadhead instead of Mel or Ken (who might otherwise make more sense).

He's also literally in the room when Mel gets revealed as human. He's sleeping in an open breadbox. It makes sense that he would wake up from Jack's yelling and Mel panicked and trying to talk him down, and Mel definitely spilled enough blood for it to get on the ground. He could have easily just woken up and walked out, seen the blood and the chaos that was going down, and put two and two together.

And he kiiiiiind of tells Mud to shut up when Mud asks why they're hunting Jack. "If we get paid, who cares why we do it" even though it is made VERY clear later that Breadhead does not get paid. He's just trying to focus Mud's attention elsewhere, which Mel and Ken almost immediately join in on.

Although less consequential, he also carries Mel at the end while she's bleeding black blood and says nothing about it. I give this less credence because he can guess that she just fought an angel, an unassuming Breadhead could easily just say that the blood belongs to the angel (a lot of it does) and leave it at that. He also immediately crushes Jack so that he cannot speak properly after Jack says to listen to him.

So, yeah. That's a theory. We'll see if it goes literally anywhere.

I've seen so many people say that this hand must belong to Ken's ex-wife.

But... all I can say is that this conclusion is way too rushed.

You know what, I’ll just get all my theories out at this point. (Thoughts and theories below).

Mud used to work under the angels.

Where did they get that truck to sneak into paradise lost.

Why did mud have an outdated uniform already on hand.

Why does mud know about the garden (or what the place where the angels are is called).

How does mud know Joshua (who works there).

What did mud do when Ken was (presumably) imprisoned in the inferno. Did mud run the mafia while Ken was gone.

If Mud did work for the angels, maybe he was the one who helped Ken escape from the inferno.

I think most of us agree that Ken was imprisoned in the inferno and somewhere in the process of breaking out, he found Mel.

My thoughts on how Ken escaped was that either

1. Mud already worked there and helped Ken escape

2. Mud worked there just to rescue Ken

3. Ken escaped and Mud just so happened to worked there and because Ken’s way of escape

4. Mud quit working there before or after Ken escaped and it is completely irrelevant to Ken’s escape.

There may be more districts.

Pretty sure the focus is just going to be on the gaslight district but I’m already going to consider the potential of more districts just in case because this is earth and I’m fairly certain earth is really big for it to just be the gaslight district.

This is going on the assumption that the gaslight district is a part of earth separate from the inferno and paradise lost but is the place closest to those locations.

Breadhead was made as a friend/siblings/companion for Mel by Ken.

I just think Ken knows a lot more about stuff about the world and potentially magic especially if people are right and Breadhead is a golem.

The giant black hand eye thing at the center is the eye of an angel.

I just have thoughts about the eyes of the angels. Those thoughts being do they have only one eye? Or two eyes and one is just really big?

Not a theory but what would happen if Mel got the mark of the black hand? Have they tried doing that already?

Not a theory. Who is Xenora? Is that the person Ken betrayed? (Assuming Ken was put in the inferno and that is related to the speculation that he betrayed someone.

Not a theory. Who named Mel? Was it Ken or this mysterious Xenora?

Not a theory but are the virtues not allowed to go to the gaslight district?

Not a theory but if they are immortal, do they still have the ability to grow old? Do they have the ability to procreate?

Not a theory. Why do the other immortals look so different from the main cast? Is it just character distinction (red pupils that our main cast have vs the glowing eyes of everyone else) or something else?

Not a theory. Are flies considered livestock?

Not a theory. How is one chosen to work for the angels? More importantly, how does one become a virtue?
