cosmo angst warning
Meeting Sashas
The four gods were promised that they would meet Etar and his new friend at this park, though it seems like Etar’s running late. Cosmo swings on a tree branch as the three others sit on the grass below. A few feet away stands a large statue of the being Agathangelos staring up into the sky.
“Where’s Etar? He told us he’d be here by now.” The young DNA speaks, sounding annoyed.
“If I was Etar, I would purposely come even slower if I heard you say that.” Ira spoke up from the background.
“Patience, the lot of you. He’ll be here.. Eventually.” Lareye chimed in, not bothering to look up from her current drawing.
“Sorry we’re late!!” Etar appears behind the statue before promptly falling over a branch of the tree.
“Etar!!” Cosmo enthusiastically runs over to the young god, extending a hand to help him get up. Etar grabs Cosmo, dusting himself off. “Sorry we’re late, I had to get Sasha-” Etar looked behind him. “Hey where’d you go!?” The supposed new friend was nowhere to be seen.
“Sorry sorry..” Sashas comes peeking around the statue, “You got ahead of me.”
“Is this your new friend?” Cosmo asked, astonished.
“Yeah!” Etar ran over to Sashas, “This is Sashas! I recently met him and thought you guys would like him!” He grabbed Sashas’ hand to drag him over to the group.
“Really? You made us wait so long just for this guy?” DNA sneered. “DNA, pipe down.” Lareye responded, lightly smacking him with their sketchbook. Though Ira didn’t speak up, they were quick to snicker from the shadows of the tree.
“Hey ‘this guy’ is my friend, and is gonna be yours too someday. Give him a chance aye?” Etar pulls him down to sit. “Well? You wanna introduce yourself?” Etar looked over to Sashas, still holding his hand.
“Oh yeah yeah..” Sashas looked down then back to the group. “Uhm…My name’s Sashas Jehiel and uh…” He looked to Etar.
“How about you tell a fun fact about yourself? That’s a good way to introduce yourself.”
“Well I uh…I..my father is a priest?...” They looked to Etar with a worried expression, mouthing “did I do good”
“That’s so cool!” Cosmo looks around at the other gods. “Should we introduce ourselves? I’ll go first! I’m Cosmo and I love dragons!”
“I go by Ira, and I can play the guitar.” There wasn’t a lot of emotion in his tone, but it was sufficient.
“My name is Lareye, and I suppose I enjoy drawing.”
“Do we really have to do this? This is unnecessary.” DNA responded.
“Yeah we really need to do this, come on, act nice for once.” Etar slightly nudged DNA with his tail.
“Fine.. My name is DNA.”
“..and?” Cosmo urged him to continue.
“And what? That’s all you need to know!” DNA snaps back.
“Sorry about DNA, I swear he’s not normally like this..”
“No, he’s usually exactly like this. Just don’t take it personally.” Lareye cut in.
“I’m trying to give him a good first impression, Lareye!” Etar whisper-yelled over to the fox.
“By.. lying? Isn’t it better to let your new friend know that it’s not personal?”
“Ehhh??..Yeah, good point.” Etar looked back to Sashas and smiled widely. “Anywhooo..how about we do some icebreakers? That’s a good way to get to know someone!”
“Oooh! Me first!” Cosmo volunteered. “What are your guys’ favorite animals?”
“Are you serious? Are we fucking children?” DNA protested.
“Well, yes. Technically we are indeed children, DNA.” Lareye answered. “Though, I will agree that I don’t really see the point in doing this?”
“To get to know our new friend better, obviously!” Cosmo disapproved of his friends’ pessimistic attitudes towards this activity.
“I think that’s a great idea Cosmo!” Etar lightly punched DNA in the shoulder. “I can go first,” Etar hummed, thinking for a little. “My favorite is probably a Kelpie.”
“You know, I am into these species called Suanni’s. There are a ton of different types of them, though. They’re like lions, in a way, but there are versions of them like horses and dragons.” Ira was planning on rambling on about this topic for a lot longer, but to save some dignity they shut themselves up.
“Well, I suppose Enfields are rather interesting, so I’d consider those to be my favorite.”
“Uhm…I’d say I like Hoopoes or HudHuds…they’re pretty cool.”
“Well if I have to answer, it’s a cerberus.” DNA rolls his eyes, hating how childish this was.
Ira’s eyes locked onto DNA’s in a literal second, a mischievous grin over his face. “Hey, wait a minute, wasn’t it a unicorn, DNA? You told me that one time while you were like..infodumping or some crap.”
DNA sputters. “I.. no it’s not! It’s a Karkadann, which is not a unicorn! It’s way cooler…I’m not some little kid!”
“Aw, there’s no need to be embarrassed, DNA! We all have things that we like, and there’s nothing wrong with liking unicorns!” Cosmo reassures DNA, attempting to alleviate his embarrassment, but in reality, they were only making it worse.
After a short but awkward pause, the fox turned to face the teenage peryton. “So..your father is a priest, right Sashas? What’s that like..?” He questioned, the curiosity in her voice barely there.
“Well uhm…My father, Phinehas is the priest for..uh..” He stuttered over most of his words. “For the church of Saint Sashas. He uhm…he’s the third generation of priests in the family I guess?..He wants me to be one too someday.”
“Oh, I see. That’s.. interesting. Do you plan on becoming a priest?”
“Well..maybe. I’m not sure..I think it’d be cool, but I also sorta want to maybe be a musician one day.”
“Oh, really? I think that’d be cool. Music is technically just another way to tell a story, after all. Do you play anything currently?”
“No. I want to possibly learn the guitar though.”
“Oh, I know how to play the guitar, I could teach you, if ya would like.” Ira spoke up, his eyes sparkling a little bit, but it wasn’t all that obvious.
“Oh! That would be..Uhm..Yeah I would like that..”
“I bet you’re gonna be so good at guitar, especially with Ira teaching you!” Cosmo chimed in.
“Yeah totally!” Etar put an arm over Sashas.
The five gods and Sashas continue to talk, giggling and laughing here and there; all sat under His Fig Tree. The statue of Agathangelos looming over them. They talk until the sun begins to set, the golden star casting itself across the horizon.
Sashas looks up to the sky, “I think I need to leave soon..” Sashas stood up, bringing Etar with, forgetting that they were both still holding their hands.
“Ok, bye bye Sashas, bye everyone!” Cosmo waved goodbye to Sashas, before she skipped away.
Gathering his belongings, Lareye stood up to leave as well. “Farewell, everyone.” They followed up with a small wave, before walking off.
“See you all, nice meeting you!” Sashas dragged Etar. Etar would slightly scream in surprise before fully following Sashas.
DNA walked away without another word.
“Sashas, come talk to me whenever you want those guitar lessons.” Ira called as he rushed after DNA, a hand falling onto his shoulder while walking beside him.
“What do you want, Ira?” DNA sighed, not appreciating being interrupted during his walk back home.
“Goin’ home with you tonight, and I’m not taking any arguments.” They smiled, a smug one at that.
“Whatever..” DNA grumbled.

Ace & Lareye 3
“Let me tell you, that girl had no idea what she was talking about! She’s clearly unfit to lead a country! If she can’t interpret our VERY clear texts right, then there’s no hope for her presidency!” Lareye passionately complained to Ace. “Wow, you’re really getting into all this election stuff, huh?” Ace didn’t really know what else to say. She’d never seen Lareye angry like this. “Naturally! I mean, how do you make your whole campaign your RELIGION, and refuse to actually understand it? Actually follow its beliefs! ‘Sin will be punishable by law’ who do you think you are?! That’s not at all what we wanted when we made this planet! Different beliefs and interpretations are welcome, so long as there is SOME truth to it! By all the stars above, she got ONE thing right, and that’s to ‘help your friends as taught by Cosmo’, oh wow, you’re really clever for figuring that one out, you insufferable troglodyte!”
Cosmo interrupted. “At least she knows that!” He says, trying to find some silver lining in her beliefs.
“Yes, that’s true, at least that half witted worm of a being can understand at least that!”
Lareye was fuming. “I like worms!” Cosmo commented. Lareye sighed. While Cosmo’s whimsy was usually welcome, it was hard to understand how he could come up with these things. Let alone stand to see someone be so objectively wrong. To see someone get to stand on a stage and tarnish their memories, freely twist their words for personal gain like that?
“Cosmo, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but that’s not relevant right now.” Lareye rubbed her temples, exhausted from having to deal with all this. “Uh-” Ace was suddenly interrupted by a cheery voice. “I see you are also a devout follower! Where’d you get your moon necklace? It looks so real!” Eunice asked, clearly unaware just who she was talking to. “Actually, this is Lar-” Cosmo’s attempt at a correction was quickly muffled when Lareye put a hand over his mouth.
“Indeed. Just so very devout. In fact, I believe you interpreted the holy texts in a… very interesting way. Mind expanding on how you came to some of those conclusions, or how you got some of your ideas? For example, sin being punishable by law?” Lareye asked, trying to hide how offended he was.
“Of course! I assume you don’t attend church often, then?” Eunice asked, a hint of disdain in her expression. “My ideals are widely considered as the modern interpretation of the holy texts. They’ve been adapted to fit modern society, compared to the archaic one they were originally written for.” She explained.
That explained some of it, Lareye had no idea that newer interpretations had been made, at least not ones these extreme. “I see.I personally prefer to follow the older texts, so there’s where our beliefs differ.”
Ace just sighed, knowing that this conversation was probably going to go on for a while. “So you’re a traditionalist then? Not many followers are like you, I’ll admit. Just know you’re always welcome at my church.” She said, offering the god a card, presumably with the information for the church.
Seeing the offer, she took her hand off of Cosmo’s mouth and took the card, though it was clear that it would never be given a second thought after this interaction. “Oh, and here’s a copy of the scripture, in case you don’t have one of your own.” Eunice also handed Lareye a thick book, with star symbols on the cover. Lareye took the book that he was handed, a clear look of displeasure on their face. “I’ll be sure to read it.”
Eunice walked away, a polite smile still on her face. Once Lareye knew she was out of earshot, he spoke again. “Stars above, that was difficult. I didn’t even know these were a thing.” He said, waving the book around. “I will probably end up reading it, though. I can’t help but wonder how much this differs from what we all actually wrote.”
“I wanna read it too!” Cosmo chimed in. “I know they at least got what I wrote right!”
“True, you can read it as well.”
Ace looks around, waiting to see if the two gods had anything else to say. “Okay, now that that’s over with, are we gonna talk about my training?” “Oh, yes. Have you decided on a preferred sword, or would you like to continue testing out different ones?” Lareye asked. “I’ve been enjoying my training with the shortswords, but I don’t have much of a preference.” With that, Lareye began to discuss with their apprentice about different options for shortswords, other possible sword types that they could try, and a few more training methods that they could practice as they walked, all while Cosmo looked incredibly bored. As the three of them approached Ace’s house, Lareye and Cosmo waved their goodbyes.
Ace & Lareye 2
Ace walks out of the presidential office, and makes her way over to the tree Lareye had perched herself on. The sparrow chirped loudly at Ace, scolding them for being late. “Sorry, I forgot I had a meeting today.” They apologized. “It won't happen again.” The bird flapped its wings in response, chirping again to beckon Ace along as they began to move, guiding them to the desolate wheat field. Ace followed along, knowing they’d have to go through rigorous training after a tiring meeting like that. But they were the one who wanted this. They were the one who wanted to protect Chaos. Once in the field, Lareye morphed back into a more human form, and tossed Ace a dull sword. Ace immediately went into a longpoint stance, both hands gripping the blade. Lareye carefully adjusted her position. “Straighten your back, and relax your shoulders a bit. Being this tense will negatively impact your combat abilities. And this foot isn't at the correct angle.” Once Lareye was satisfied with Ace’s stance, he stepped away.
“For today’s training, you’ll begin learning how to do a move called a feint attack. This is less for actual fighting, and still more reliant on your wit in the fight. It is a deceptive move used to bait your opponent into blocking an attack from the wrong direction, while you switch at the last second..” Lareye drew her sword, and got into a stance of their own. “You need to be very quick with moves like this.Try attacking me and I’ll show you.” He urged his apprentice on. Ace swung their sword at the god, which was obviously parried. Lareye attacks back, aiming for Ace’s right side. Ace moved to counter their attack, only for the god’s sword to not make contact with their right side at all, instead reaching their left. Ace was shocked at this, moving their head to look at the god’s blade. “That’s devious!” They sounded impressed. “Indeed, devious, but necessary. Now you try.”
The two of them got back into their stances and resumed their training. After hours of practice and corrections, the light in the sky began to fade. Ace’s pace began to slow, and Lareye remembered that mortals cannot fight and train for as long as a deity. “Would you like to take a break?” Lareye questioned.”No, I’m good, I can handle more training.” They said, determined. “Let me rephrase. You’re going to take a break to regain your strength. It’s good to challenge yourself, but you’re no good to that president of yours, or anyone for that matter, if you tire yourself out.” Ace sighed, knowing the truth in Lareye’s words. “Fine, I guess you’re right. I’ll take a break.”
Ace sits down on the dirt, the wheat towering over the two of them.
“...”
“...”
Ace decided to break the silence between them. “So.. that friend of mine is running for president..”
“..Doesn’t he already have that role? Why run for it again?”
“Well, yes, but certain candidates would be a bad fit for the country. So, it’s better to be safe and have Chaos run again.
“So.. they need to try for it again every few years?”
“Yeah, that’s kinda how elections work..”
“Huh.. Interesting. The way you mortals decide a leader is fascinating.”
“You don’t come down here often, do you?”
“No, I really don’t. I just.. don’t see much need to involve myself in mortal affairs.”
“Well, Chaos’ campaign would be greatly improved by the endorsement of a god.. I was wondering if maybe you could do that? I don’t know if Ira would be willing to.. And DNA definitely wouldn’t.”
“Perhaps.. It depends on the circumstances. If someone corrupt were to try and take Chaos’ power, then intervention would likely be necessary. If not, there’s no true need for my endorsement. I’m sure your president will do fine on his own..” Lareye explained, before touching on that last sentence. “..DNA? I learned today that your president is involved with Ira, but how is he connected to DNA?”
“DNA has caused us some… issues.. In the past. We aren’t exactly on friendly terms.”
“Huh. So that’s how he’s been handling things..? Messing with humans..?” Lareye muttered, more to themself than to their apprentice.
“Yeah, basically. I think he’s tried to kill us like.. 3 times.”
“Oh.. really? Hm.. I knew of his hostile nature, of course, but I didn’t expect him to begin taking it out on something he took part in creating..”
“Yeah.. anyways, I know Chaos would appreciate an endorsement, but no pressure!”
“..I’ll take it into consideration.” Lareye said, pondering the idea.
Ace & Lareye 1
“Cmon Lareye! Pleaseeee?” The shorter god begged. “No, Cosmo. I'm not going.” Lareye responded “But I'll be so lonely!” Cosmo pouted and Lareye sighed. “Fine, give me one good reason why I should join you.” They took a moment to think, before responding. “Um.. you might find a new apprentice there?” He offered this idea, unsure if it will work, but hopeful nonetheless. It had been a while since Lareye trained an apprentice.. maybe it was time to pass her combat knowledge to yet another human. They relented, considering the possibility for a new apprentice, and knowing it's difficult to say no to Cosmo. “You make a good point.” And so, the two gods descended to the planet below.
The two gods wandered around, currently doing nothing but observing the planet they created so long ago. But after a moment, Lareye felt a cold touch on their shoulder. He turned around to see a shadowy figure manifesting behind them. Cosmo turned around after seeing Lareye do so. “Ira!” He cheerfully greeted, a stark contrast to Lareye’s reaction. Lareye let out a sigh. As nice as it was to see an old friend, he knew Ira likely came with news. Good or bad, she supposed they’d find out.
A grin formed across the shadow’s face, offering a simple and quick wave to the both of them. “Greetings! I am sure you two are overjoyed with my presence!” Ira said rather cheerfully, way to be egotistical, huh. “Salutations, Ira.” Lareye responded, acknowledging the shadow with a nod.
“Are you just stopping by to say hi, or is there something you need to inform us of?” they questioned.
“Well, yes, I technically do need to tell you something. Though it is not “us”, the information is not at all dealing with Cosmo.”. “Aw man..” Cosmo whined. “Oh?” He felt a spark of interest about this, wondering what on Thuvis could be of relevance to her, and not Cosmo as well. “Go on.” Lareye urged.
“There is this one mortal that I have been..spectating. To put it nicely, they aren’t very strong at all. You know they’ve got heart but no strength at all, mentally and physically. It is quite obvious actually. So I assumed that you could help them out!” He ended the sentence there, clasping his hands together.
“A mortal you believe to be worthy of apprenticeship? I see.. Do you perhaps know where they are, currently?” “See, I told you!” Cosmo exclaimed.
“I could possibly check where exactly they’re located at, but there is a chance that they’re currently with others.”
“Understood. I’ll consider it, I’ll need to see them myself first in order to decide. Do you have an idea where they might end up going? Somewhere that they frequent, perhaps?”
“I watch people, not read their minds! I have no idea where they plan on going, all I know is that they move locations a lot.”
Well, that would make locating this person significantly difficult.
“Alright, alright. I could probably locate them myself if I had a name, then. Do you at least have that, Ira?”
“All I remember is that the mortal's name starts with an A, they also constantly look tired.”
“Ira. That could be any mortal on this planet. A doesn’t narrow it down at all, Aaron, Alexander, Andrew, Adam, Avery, Ana, Austin, et cetera. Also I’m pretty sure every mortal looks tired, at least to our standards. Is there anything significant about them that you remember?”
“No, I quite literally have no other information. They are not my main focus, usually they’re just tired..and that is all I remember.”
Lareye took a deep breath in order to keep her composure. “Understood. I suppose I’ll keep a lookout for this.. Exhausted mortal. Thank you, Ira. Anything else that you have to say?”
“Nope! Have a fantastic time looking for them! Maybe you could ask some other mortals if they have seen an exhausted mortal with a name starting with A!”
“..Noted. Well in that case, farewell. Take care of yourself, Ira.” “Bye Ira!” They waved farewell to the shadow. The two gods continued their walk. Cosmo turned towards Lareye. “Well that sounds fun! Are we gonna go look for them?” Cosmo asked eagerly.
“And how do you propose we do that, Cosmo?” Lareye sighed.
“I don't know, maybe they're around here somewhere! Or we could ask around, I'm sure humans will want to help!” Cosmo offered his naive ideas.
“We don't have any other details, Cosmo. A tired human whose name starts with A could be anyone.” Lareye explained patiently.
“Aw man, I wish we had a way to just summon Ira! I'm sure they know something else about them.. like how they look or something.” Cosmo said, disappointment clear on her face.
“I do too, Cosmo. But Ira works in mysterious ways. It's hard to know where he is, or where they’ll be next.” And so, with no leads as to who this human might be, the two continued their walk.
Cosmo skipped along the path, Lareye trailing behind. Cosmo looks down to see white mushrooms growing in the grass and stops, crouching down to poke at the caps. “Lareye, what's your favorite fungi?” Lareye took a moment to ponder her answer, thinking back to the varieties of fungi he made for this planet. “Uh, I ended up really liking the design for Tricholomopsis rutilans. So that one, I suppose.” “Those are the purple ones, right?” She asked, testing her knowledge. “Correct! Those are the purple ones.” Lareye confirmed, proud of Cosmo for remembering. Cosmo looks up, and points to someone sitting on a bench, engrossed in whatever they were writing. “Hey, that's a human! Maybe they're the mortal Ira was talking about! Let's go ask their name!” “Cosmo, we can’t just go ask every person we see what their name is.” “I have a really good feeling about this one though!” “We can’t base decisions like these based off of gut feelings, Cosmo.” Lareye informed them, but looking over at the mortal, maybe she could see where Cosmo was coming from. Even if this wasn’t the human Ira had mentioned, they were certainly dedicated to their work. And that was always promising.
“..I can go see, though. Stay here for a bit, Cosmo.” With that, they approached the person on the bench, and he noted the bags under their eyes.
She didn’t entirely know how to start this introduction off, so she supposed he could take a line from Ira. “Greetings.” She began, attempting to shift the humans focus.
They looked up from their notebook. “Hello.” Attempting to find something else to say, she wondered when interacting with mortals became so hard. Had it always been this difficult?
“Did you need something..?” The human’s comment distracted Lareye from her thoughts.
“Nothing much, just an introduction, and I couldn’t help but notice how much you were writing. So enlighten me, what’s your name?”
“You first, and maybe I’ll do the same.” They answered cautiously.
She noted the quick deflection, that certainly showed potential. “Nice try, but two can play this game.” She responded, quickly glancing to make sure Cosmo was still where they left her.The human noticed this quick glance, and realized they had seen the person in front of them before. “Don’t be modest, I know you’re a god. Let’s be honest, you’re Lareye.”
Well, that was quicker than she expected. No point in keeping up the mortal facade now. “Well done. If you’re looking for a mentor, I’ll make sure your time’s well spent.”
They blinked a few times, clearly surprised at what they heard. “An apprenticeship? From Lareye? I’m very honored, but I’m probably too busy…” A strong work ethic, then? That only seemed to prove their potential even more. “I’m sure we could find a way to fit it into your schedule. What work keeps you so preoccupied?”
‘I’m the vice president of Bleemtopia.” They answered.
“Ah, the vice president of.. What now?”
“..Bleemtopia. The country we’re in right now..?”
“Oh.. right, I see. I forgot you mortals ended up naming the land with all these different names.”
Suddenly, the human and Lareye hear a familiar voice from behind. “Hey Lareye! How’s your apprenticeship thing going? Is this the human?” Cosmo has far too much energy..
“Yes, Cosmo. This is the human I’ve chosen to offer apprenticeship to. So, do you accept?”
Ace did need to learn how to fight. They couldn’t let what happened to Chaos happen again.
“I accept.”
