Maia & Tex's (semi-abridged) History
just a sort of long-ish drabble-ramble thing about my silly little guys
The Dinocos and Eldorados are old friends. Reyansh Eldorado ha known ol' Tex since he had just an oil well to his name and Rey with just a startup loan to his firm. They're good ol' business pals that's helped each other out time and time again. So, Tex is pretty familiar with little Maia. His favorite story to recount is when she bit his tire aat a party once when she was like 8. Tex still sort of sees her as that little tirebiter that picked fights with cars way bigger than her because she still sort of is.
But at some point, Rey doesn't talk about her anymore and Tex stopped seeing her when he comes over. "Thought I taught her better than to fly the coop soon as she could," Rey says when Tex asks and he doesn't ask him to elaborate further.
Tex happens upon her again when Maia's looking for work for her client - young racecars need tracks to run on and all and she's been busting her engine looking for a sponsor, Tex so happily offers her one under the pretense of seeing what the kid's got first and Maia declines. It's one thing if Tex was a friend she had schmoozed up at a party or something like that but the fact Tex is a family friend, well, she doesn't want his help then. "Atleast think about it for 'yer client," Tex insists and Maia does think about it. Some time later, Tex signs a new racer for the [Cars Universe equivalent for NHRA/Drag Racing Series]. Maia resigned as that client's agent and Tex doesn't see her again for a while. He's heard the name Eldorado here and there, still goes out drinking with Rey and catches up with him.
Somewhere around the time Cal retires, Tex is looking for a new racer for the Piston Cup and reaches out to Maia for help which she is piqued by at the chance to help Tex instead of the other way around and she agrees though finds Maia's a very busy woman now, and a very different one. He initially wanted to mee up with her face-to-face to talk but had to settle for a call, turns out Maia Eldorado is a very hard woman to get a physical meeting with now and is almost solely available via phone call. Tex learns her attitude towards clients have changed now, she's much more impersonal now and just very distant.
It's a little awkward when Tex tries to bring it up to Reyansh and he seems unwilling to talk about his own daughter. Tex doesn't press, none of his business, at least, not yet. Maybe whatever drama's the Eldorados got going on will resolve it on it's own.
Anywho, then Tex signs on Cruz Ramirez and after Maia being a little huffy about Tex just signing this new racer without her help nor without telling her, she gets over it eventually and agrees to be the kid's agent. She's still only reachable via phon for a while until her schedule opens up for her to attend a race and finally get a pint of oil togethe with Tex and more importantly, meet Cruz in-person. Something about Cruz's story clicks with her, something about how Cruz just is, it clicks with her. That and the fact it's the first race that she's sat in the stands for in a long time and it's the first time she's seen a girl up on the leaderboard for even longer.
A little slowly but surely, Maia does more and more in-person business and such. Maia also slowly dotes on Cruz more and more and Tex sees that old spark in Maia and he even convince he to accept a job as Dinoco's full-time agent. She's still pretty busy, still sticking by a couple indie clients of her's, you rarely ever see her without an earpiece but she's around more, for better or for worse. (For worse for a particular few) And while Maia still tried keeping her distance with Tex, sort of avoiding forming an actual connection with him, but Dinoco's a family and you WILL be a part of it. So, Maia couldnt avoid him for so long until she gets invited to game night.
Tex and Maia bond like old friends now. He's still sort of that uncle-like figure, her dad's friend, a tether to her past and something, so on but he's also one hell of a poker player to play against. His friend group becomes her friend group and so on, Maia didn't have many actual friends before but she'd never admit that. They can have long conversation of back and forth on the latest happenings or some old news, maybe an old memory or two brough up or Tex can just blabber on about business and Maia, completely capable of understanding, doesn't really want to and nods along to let the old man talk anyway.
