33. Walking thirty dogs through the park

“See? I told you this was going to be a great idea,” she shrieked as she got abruptly pulled by a hyper Great Dane puppy. She had lost a bet that all the recruits made. They all had to run the most laps around HQ non-stop and the loser had to walk everyone’s dogs for a whole morning. She was going strong for the first laps, staying at the top of her game, before she foolishly kicked a stone that had the shape of a soccer ball, the impact was too hard that she hit the ground and ended up losing. 

To say Kai dominated the dogs was an understatement. He had ten leashes in each hand. Calling out each dog every time they made a wrong move or tried to outsmart him. Reagan could see the good leadership skills and firmness the mentor had, and it was something that she truly admired of him. “Than, if you’re such a good mentor, how in the world did your recruit die on day one?”

Anubis, Atum

Anubis: How do you feel about death?

I think it comes for everybody, sometimes a hell of a lot sooner than we might think. There may be certain kinds y’can try to fight, but in the end it still ain’t somethin’ you can run from. I always say that in life and especially in this kind of work there ain’t many constants, but death is always one of them. It’s just somethin’ ya gotta accept and the quicker y’do then the better you’ll be at your job. (As much as Heph seems to be impassive on the subject and even faced with the situation, death actually weighs quite heavily on him. It’s why he is such a perfectionist and incredibly thorough with his work even more than usual because he knows that lives depend on his equipment especially weaponry in some way. He’s not sure many agents take casualties and risks in to account as much as he does. He’s a serious person for a reason.)

Atum: What are your greatest imperfections?

Physically, I have heterochromia which is technically considered an imperfection to have mix-matched eyes. I like them though and it’s kind of the only trait I have in common with my brother and sister. They come from my other dad Logan whose got heterochromia and passed it on to them. It was actually a rare surprise that I would end up having it since we don’t have the same parents. (the kavanagh children are all surrogate born)

Other than that I guess being a “guarded” person. I’ve always been a reserved guy, but probably more so since havin’ been in the military and definitely a lot more bein’ apart of the Initiative. I think anybody here can tell ya its hard to know who y’can really trust when everyone is a spy especially when the first “Fall of Olympus” happened and we were betrayed by our fellow agents some considered “friends”. Besides, this is the kind of job where you’re always losin’ someone so its kinda better not to get too close. (Growing up Heph always had issues with attachment and it worsened when he had to leave his family behind for the Initiative. He doesn’t get close to people so he won’t have to let them go. Also, he’s a very dedicated and genuine person and what with working with agents who are so good at masking their true feelings its hard to think he might invest himself in someone for the connection to only actually be a one-way thing. Plus, he’s demi-romantic/demi-sexual which makes it even more difficult to build bonds with him in a more than friendship way.)

“My health’s pretty good. I do train and do crossfit. I do happen to be slightly iron deficient, though.”

“Any major responsibilities or importance? Not really. Other than being part of this whole thing, my biggest responsibility is making sure the cover of this whole initiative remains under wraps.” I’m pretty sure I’m not irreplaceable at all.
