I’m a year older today. This year feels more special... Things. They aren’t as important as they use to be. . . . Over the last few days people have asked me what I want for my birthday. We live in a culture where from before our birth there is an expectation of gift giving. From the first baby shower to our birthdays. Things are given. I don’t believe I still cherish any of them...If I own them still (not enough to remember I have them.) . . . This doesn’t diminish my appreciation. This is a fact of life that is true for us all. I probably have far to many sentimental trinkets from my past stashed away in boxes that I can’t part with. But it’s not the things I cherish...but the memories and the person who brought them into my life. . . . So this year I made my answer, when people ask what I want... TIME. . . . No one has disappointed. I’m reminded how blessed I am in my life right now. I’ve had many lonely birthdays. But this year my friends and family have stepped up. It’s been a rough year and a rewarding year, and God has gifted me with the most amazing community of support. I only pray I’m 1/2 as supportive as they are when they need it. . . . I look into my 36 year old eyes and I still see the teenager who doubted she’d ever make it this far. That’s why today I’m posting a picture of me. To remind myself of how beautiful, loved, supported, and strong I am. . . . Thank you friends and family who have taken the time to wish me happy birthday and be there for me. That’s a gift I will cherish for a lifetime! * * * #jsydsjourney #birthdaygifts #36andlovingit #thankfulforyou #blessedtohaveyouinmylife #jsydsphotos #familyandfriendstime (at Mississippi)
