Weekends are perfect for reinvigorating the spirit and spending more time with the family. My husband made dinner while the kids made dessert. It wasn't anything fancy but it was a Christmas present from their grandmother, so it's extra special -- a store-bought fudge brownie mix. The look on Luis' face when he opened grandma's present pretty much sums it all up 😄 The wonderful thing about it is that Luis willingly shares it with his younger brother; I heard the 8-year-old read the instructions on the box as his older brother measured the ingredient. They had fun measuring, mixing, and greasing the pan together. . . While waiting for the brownie to cook in oven, they sang along their favorite bands on YouTube as the little boy enjoyed a nap on his father's shoulders (yes, he still likes to be carried like a baby sometimes). It was a Saturday well spent. Despite not feeling well, this little boy woke up early on Saturday morning to help his father harvest some waxy corn for breakfast. I was tending the lettuce patch nearby and heard them talk about his father's childhood and how they also helped their parents in farm when they were kids 😊 I don't know what lies ahead for these kids, but right now we're doing our best to instill in the them a love for #nature , animals, and family. To cap the weekend off, we shared a pot of champorado (chocolate rice pudding) under the Alum tree. Thankfully I still have some pure tablea (cacao bars) from the highlands of Maramag, Bukidnon; the best I have tried in the province so far. . . These #farmkids worked very hard in the garden all weekend, helping me prepare the potting soil, water the plants, and sow the new seeds. Before sundown, they each grabbed a handful of chives for their scrambled eggs and some sunflower seeds for their backyard garden at home. We don't grow 💯% of our food, but we are heading toward that direction. It's a long, long way to go but are enjoying each tiny step, one day at a time. . . Kids, dogs, and water ❤️ It doesn't look clean, but for kids, where there's water there's fun! 😂 We crossed the same river twice, passed by a group of noisy monkeys, and jumped over a deep trench twice to get to this hidden place in forest. The dogs had fun as well, only that Delma got lost -- again, and got tangled among the vines by the river. @jingaycatalan 's #DelmaDoggo always needs rescuing, that city pup. . . Last Sunday was extra special. The #tinywhitehouse was filled with guests who celebrated our oldest son's 14th birthday with us. Apart from my parents, my sister @dr_cuddle5 and our ever-supportive town Mayor, my husband's friend from the same facility he went to five years ago came to visit with his girlfriend. His family and mine attended regular family therapy sessions together every other weekend for 7 straight months and so we've become like one family as well. Indeed, we had to let go of some friendships the moment we chose #sobriety, but we can never be more grateful for meeting new ones that support our new lifestyle and understand what we've gone through. Recovery is possible. I missed this crazy bunch! The #FarmKids used to come to the #tinywhitehouse everyday to play with our youngest boy, but since classes resumed, they seldom come to visit. Today, they surprised me with a bag of fruits from their garden and helped me make raised beds for the #carrots 🥕 They enjoyed shoveling soil and using those small garden tools while my son entertained them with his funny riddles that don't rhyme 😄 I also got to show them my compost pits and the hanging pumpkins. They haven't seen this kind before and thought they were avocados.
