18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

Okay so this can vary a little bit, because !!!!! I name all of my fics after songs. And moooooooooooost of the time, a song kinda ignites the fic writing in the first place, like, I hear a song, and I'm watching an AMV in my head. So like, the easiest version of events is: I hear a song -> It gives me an idea -> I listen to it lots and lots while I'm writing -> I name the fic after the song.

But SOMETIMES! Especially for longer fics. Sometimes like, there's a song that bEGINS the process but then I'll be leaning on an album or I'll make a playlist, and over the course of writing, I might change my mind what song to name it after. Or SOMETIMES, I'm like, mega obsessed with a song but the title doesn't sound good for a fic. (My Gaul fic, for example, in my mind, is based on Valence by Be'lakor but I can't make VALENCE or any lyrics of the song feel like a good title so I'm completely distraught.)

But I think about like. Songs being the sort of emotional core of any fic I write. I use songs as sort of like, emotional guidelines, like I hear a song and the FEELING the song gives me is the feeling I want to give the reader. I want my fic to make you feel the way the song makes me feel. So like sometimes I'm working on a fic for months and months and need to rotate more music through the creative process but like, when I get stuck I can always go back and listen to that first song to remind myself what the tone is supposed to be. (I put Valence on to grab that link and I'm so fucking emotional and upset rn thinking about Marius and Mael lmao.)

So that's kinda, how that goes. lol. I always link the songs & playlists in my AO3 notes in case anyone wants to see, but I know music is subjective and you might not like it. =P But it's there! Just in case!

(If I can't make Valence work for my Gaul fic title I'm heavily also considering How Fortunate the Man With None by Dead Can Dance and Descending by Tool - the songs also really encapsulate the vibe I'm going for with this fic and really really inspire me and make me cry every time I hear them, so they're on the table. But Valence is CHEFS KISS the fic I'm really writing in my heart.)

I don't want to complain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But yknow if you're gonna write hetero rarepairs no one is gonna give a shit, I guess!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway I wrote this fic Exsolutio about Marius and Bianca and it kinda fuckin flopped but whatever. lol. I MEAN, IM NOT UNGRATEFUL, I got really thoughtful comments on it. :) But oof 400 hits LOL!!!!!!!!! (Don't obsess over hits though, it's bad for you.)

Also this fic So Falls the World which was like, at the time it was the hardest I'd ever worked on a fic and I was so so so so so proud of it but it took like 3 years for it to get 3 comments lol. It's gotten some more comments in the last couple years but man that really hurt my feelings hahahaha. Looking back on it I think it's kinda sloppy and there's a lot I'd do differently if I did it today, but at the time I really agonized over it and worked so hard and was actually proud of it, and I'm never proud of my writing.

For the record this one isn't hetero really bc it's like Marius/Pandora/Akasha hahaha but. Whatever!

(Also So Falls the World is one of those fics where the song inspired me immediately and survived the entire process so it was named after So Falls the World by Ulver and I knew I'd call it that the entire time I was writing and I was very emotional!!!!!!!!!)

Thank you!!!!!!!!!! I've been just dying to write more Moorecest and the idea about them in the car was stuck in my mind since I referenced it in An Appetite, so it just had to happen. I'm on a Moorecest kick now so you'll def be getting more from that angle soon enough lol.

Crow tries to hide his self destructive side. He’s had pretty bad anxiety his whole life. So, he has his coping mechanisms. Usually it’s a ridiculous amount of nicotine in a short period of time or super dark poetry and art. He also has a fucked up sense of humor which he tends to hide. Charlie is pretty transparent with his true self, but he tries (and usually fails miserably) to hide any negative emotions.

Crow doesn’t care either way. He hates candid photos, but if someone asks to take a picture, he doesn’t mind being in it. He usually just stands and smiles kinda awkwardly. He takes a lot of pictures of nature and “aesthetic” city spots. Charlie’s kind of the same way about having pictures taken of him. He claims he doesn’t like candid pics but secretly thinks he looks the best in them. He takes random selfies sometimes with weird Snapchat filters.

Crow used to sneak out at night to go buy cigarettes off some shady dudes as a teenager. One time, his dad caught him sneaking back in and smelling like smoke, so he poured a bottle of bleach over his head. Charlie was working long hours under the table at a local thrift shop during high school. He’d leave for school at 7 AM and wouldn’t get home from work until midnight some days. Someone had to keep the lights on while he and his mom were drowning in medical bills.
