3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year
aaaa this is SO hard to pick. It would definitely have to be something from darkest before the dawn, but that fic had soooo many hard hitting lines and parts where I just had to go and lie down for a bit because I was so emotional idk if I can choose just one!!
This is more than a line but less than a scene, but this was the very first bit I wrote for darkest before the dawn, even though it's one of the last scenes in the last chapter. I knew what I was working towards, I just had to figure out the journey there haha
“Why are you here, Cody? What do you want?” Kenobi asks wearily, as if that’s not the most loaded question currently in Cody’s life. What does he want? What can he want?
Kenobi is a ghost from his past, come to haunt him in the most unexpected way possible. Before crash landing on Tatooine, Cody had expected to continue on as he had been, finding jobs on either edge of legal, using his freedom to fuck with the Empire when he could, and avoiding it where he couldn’t. But now he has directions memorised to a small house in the middle of nowhere, and his planning has expanded from get enough credits for this month’s expenses to what is necessary to live on Tatooine; what is hard to get on the planet and what can Cody provide for this small household.
Some days when he’s sleeping in the same room as Kenobi, Cody doesn’t know if he’s playing with the desiccated corpse of the person he used to be, trying to squeeze into the rotting carcass of something that he discarded years ago. He doesn’t want anything in this new life of his. The person he used to be wanted things; now, Cody doesn’t think he cares enough to want much at all. It’s ironic; during the war, when he thought of the future, he thought about the freedom that would come with it. Now that he’s free to do almost anything he wants, he aches for the structure and the purpose of leading an army, and the ability to talk to his brothers and know that he doesn’t have to hide anything from them except his feelings for his General.
Like this really has all the yearning, the tiredness, the angst, the ache of being the sole survivor... ugh, Cody my beloved.
Or if I'm going with something that was just pure fun, the entirety of A Promise To Keep was great, especially the banter between Boba and Fennec, which I genuinely had fun with while writing.
4. total number of words you wrote this year
Haha my new year resolution/goal for the year was to write 201k this year (since last year my goal was 200k and I wanted to go up a little) and so far I have.... 279k haha 😂😭 I have written so much this year, and honestly I fully attribute that to the codywan focused state I have been in, as 216k of that total is exclusively for codywan. I'm going to gun for 301k by the end of December though, so I can say I beat my goal by 100k LOL
