The Master literally layering himself, his brain as it stands, on top of her self is an interesting take, because it means he really really sees that underlying…base as The Doctor. Sure he might have had access to her thoughts and memories but that wasn’t even the point, to him that Self is important. Cus he could go around bombing stuff and calling himself the Doctor all day to ‘ruin her name’. But he can’t. Because it’s not about that, it’s about ruining that Self, and he doesn’t want to be him yet he wants to turn The Doctor into him.
Like he truly thinks there is a fundamental difference, an ontological one, in what The Master can be and The Doctor can be.
