After finding out about what happened to Purple... does Red try to make up for what they did? If so do they succeed to literally any extent even if it's the bare minimum of what counts as a success?

Yes they do, not immediately since without the canon redemption arc events, aka everyone dying.

They don't exactly think for themselves without the stupid manual.

It was only until after an argument with Lime that made Red realised how much of a asshole they were to Purple.

It's ironic really how the crazy crewmate who originally went on about how aliens are monsters, is more accepting than Red who was supposed to be Purple's friend.

Red does make an effort to talk to Purple when they were alone, apologising about what they said, how they treated Purple and Lavender, how they never thought about reaching out up until the mission.

Purple doesn't forgive Red for what they tried to do, but is willing to give them a second chance.

Pretty much everyone's well aware about how poorly handled Kiyo's backstory is, but I think what's even more underutilized is his talent. This dude's an anthropologist. He studies humans. And yet, he shows basically none of that skill in game.

Sure, anthropology's typically focused on the past, but what if Kiyo was even more of an awkward freak? Just standing in corners, observing people, and whenever the trial came, he knew instantly who it was based on his observations of his classmates' values, traditions, etc.

Say, Kirumi being so subservient to those around her that naturally if provided with a bigger pool of people to serve, she'd pivot. Or Kaede, having proven to have a tradition of pressing herself to save others, would naturally kill to stop the timer, and the mastermind. Of course, Korekiyo's so bad at communicating, it takes the whole trial for anyone to understand what he's saying, but it would be a lot better characterization imo.

trying to live out the teenage years that were stolen from me is really fucking hard sometimes because i definitely don't have the body or the healing ability of a teen. nor do i actually look my own age, much less young.

being unattractive really sucks.
