Your fanfic made me think about the events in Red Queen, and how better it would've been from a writing point if Mare came up with the idea of either sacrificing his father or sacrificing MAVEN. Let's say Maven suggested she would make Cal choose between her and Tiberias 6 (like in the books) and she would go no, you're a better choice. She wouldn't have looked so stupid, the betrayal would still hit hard, and the conflict between Cal and Maven would've been stronger because Maven would resent him for no choosing him and that'll cause all of "the shadow of the flame" thing to hit harder bc Maven is ALWAYS the second choice and the least favored one. You can have Mare trying to convince Cal in desperation to choose her after they see Cal isn't going to choose them.

Also, anyone can betray anyone would mean so much after she saw Cal turn on his own brother and blood and her as well, and shortly afterwards Maven betrays her as well.

In short, this will add more depth to Cal and Maven's rivalry with something that isn't just jealousy, and things would flow better in terms of storytelling and character building.

This concept is super interesting! it would have been a way more reasonable plan, and easier for the audience to accept, you’re right. However, I’m not 100% positive Cal would have chosen his kingdom over who he thought at the moment was his innocent baby brother. idk. I’ll play around with the idea in my head and try to figure it out.

I didn't asexuality and aromantism existed until I told friends of mine (who are LGBT) I don't think I'm attracted to anyone and they said I give them aroace vibes. The second they explained it to me, I was absolutely sure I'm aroace, and started identifying as one. Unfortunately, not everyone has people who know those things and it saddens me that there are people who think there's something wrong with them😢

Yeah, we still have a long way to go with regards to aspec awareness and education. We are making progress, and a bunch of people know about asexuality thanks to representation in TV shows and books now. But at the same time, there’s less representation or discussion of aromanticism, and when it does come up, it’s almost always in the context of asexuality, which makes aromanticism seem like a subset of asexuality. It’s so important that we continue to push for representation in media and do outreach, education, and awareness work in the real world.
