Timidity has run away with me

Time and tide and soul

Tired, trying to stretch

From these confines, to color

Outside the lines restively

In a festive display of splendid

Dazzling range...isn't it strange

How so much can be within

While without is bland and dim?

Bare beige walls, no absorbing

Texture to keep the eye entertained

At least no one notices

Flowers and praying

For the sun, I knock

On doors I locked so

Long ago, a languishing

Bravery, my bitter bravado

Paper, pitiful protection

Against a ravenous flame--

Dust, admire and appreciate

Even celebrate what made it

That decimated

With deteriorating

Determination.

Then tell me no lie of commission: nothing in this life is mine to keep, but a poem stands on one foot, holding sunset door that says you can stay the night here: window on a moonglint bed soft to fall asleep & dream what morningmirth will bury— addresses will have changed where events have taken place in a different house on another street— & this is how we forget & why that hallway goes on forever. All my life I have become a tree; it is not difficult to fly, even in this petrified being.
