Thaya is about the best doctor in northern Mezuria, and even runs his own clinic. He always knows how to make his patients as comfortable as he can. But... not everyone sees him that way.

Thaya's been on the run since childhood because of his appearance, kicked out of his home very young. He's been labeled a demon, an evil spirit, a monster, anything you can think of really.

Ever since he started the clinic a few years ago, people have come around, mostly local northerners though. Even the other doctors hesitate to send patients or consult, that is until they come back with a glowing review. He's extremely skilled after years of practice on his unwilling travels. The fluid coming from his eyes is packed with immune cells that aggressively attack anything organic. It also fills his sinuses, which helps him to basically never get sick.

Thaya knows what its like to be mistreated. Anything you need to feel more comfortable, he'll make it work. And nobody leaves without a sucker, because even war-torn veterans like sugar.

Thaya struggles with a fear of unintentionally hurting others and anxiety, having been told he's a dangerous monster all his life. He does pottery as a hobby; its very calming for him. He doesn't like going by his real fist name Thay'ak, as it means demon in his native language (great parents.)

THAYA Winery & Hotel in Moravia, Czech Republic

2025年８月19日午後、ワインサロンから車で1時間位南西に向かい、オーストリア国境まであと5km、Podyji National Park(ポディイー国立公園)内にあるTHAYA（ターヤ）ワイナリーに到着しました。

駐日チェコ共和国大使館でのワインイベント時に、国家ソムリエKlára Kollárová（クラーラ・コルラーロヴァー）氏からご紹介いただいたTHAYA Sale ManagerのMichal Brůček氏とのご縁で実現した訪問で、THAYAは、国内ワイン評議会で「2023年チェコ共和国最優秀ワイナリー賞」受賞の実績をもつ優秀ワイナリー。

2001年に現オーナーのTravnicek(トラヴニーチェク)氏がワイナリーを創業、2020年にワイナリー名をTHAYAと命名（THAYAはチェコとオーストリアの国境を流れる川の名）、2022年に現在の場所にワイナリー、ホテル、レストランを設立。ワイン生産量は300,000本/年、うち50,000本を輸出。

まずはMichal氏とワイナリーの前に広がるブドウ畑へ。数箇所にあるブドウ畑の総面積は105haで、自社畑のブドウのみでワインを生産し、余ったブドウは販売。ブドウ畑の土壌は多様で、石灰質、砂利質、花崗岩、黄土など。ブドウ栽培は白品種が80％で、グリューナー・ヴェルトリーナー、ソーヴィニヨン・ブラン、ミュラー・トゥルガウ等、黒品種は残り20％で主にピノ・ノワール。通常灌漑はしないが、2005年のみ水が少なかったので与えたとのこと。国立公園内なので殺虫剤不使用。90%が手摘み。

醸造所にはいろいろなサイズ(2,000L、5,000L、8,000L、10,000L)のステンレスタンクがあり、総数約100基。樽は225Lと400Lサイズ。

1)Rose Sparkling 2022

ピノ・ノワール品種 瓶内二次発酵24カ月。1000本のみの生産。

オレンジ、スモモ、ラズベリーの香りと味わい。

2)Sparkling Blanc de Blancs 2024

ピノ・ブラン品種　シャルマ式二次発酵。青リンゴやレモングラスの香り。

3)Gruner Veltliner 2023

グリューナー・ヴェルトリーナー品種。ラベルにクワガタのイラスト。（他にも国立公園の生き物ラベルがいろいろ）ハーブ、ライム、グレープフルーツに蜂蜜のニュアンス。

4)Sauvignon 2023

ソーヴィニヨン・ブラン品種。シトラス、ハーブ、ミネラルを感じて爽やか！

5)Pinot Blanc 2023

ピノ・ブラン品種　12カ月の樽熟成。柑橘系にバナナやメロンが混じり合う複雑な香り。

6)APRI Chardonnay 2023　(APRIはイノシシの意味)

THAYAのフラッグシップ。シャルドネ品種 18カ月の樽熟成。洋梨、アーモンド、ナッツを感じる濃厚な味わい。

7)APRI Pinot Noir 2023

  ピノ・ノワール品種　18カ月の樽熟成　ラズベリー、イチゴ、チェリー、スミレの香り。長い余韻。

この日のディナーはTHAYAのレストランAPRIで、地元農場からの牛ステーキをいただき大満足。

その晩はTHAYAのホテルでチェコでの最後の夜を過ごし、1990年に「鉄のカーテン」が消滅するまで共産主義下だったチェコ、すぐそこのオーストリアへ行くこともかなわなかったチェコ国民の無念さはいかばかりかと思いました。
