I got a new phone. First thing I did, watch my favorite Xena episodes on it. That's actually the reason I bought a phone in the first place.

When did you first know you wanted to get married?

When she asked. Well, I knew a couple of years before that, but I wasn’t ready to actually do the planning and kept saying, “Next year, next year.” But when she proposed I knew the timing was right.

Who popped the question and how?

Sam planned a sneaky proposal on the beach in Oregon during a trip out west in summer 2012. You can watch our proposal video (and share your own!) on 2brides2be.com starting June 1st

Why is equal marriage important to you?

Sam is my wife in every sense of the word. Our union is the definition of marriage; She is my better half, my best friend, and the love of my life. To call our marriage anything else would be an affront to the institution.

What advice would you give other same-sex couples planning to get married?

If you are planning a wedding, then keep the focus on your love and the people who enrich your lives. Go ahead and own the fact that same-sex weddings are different. Throw tradition out the window if you want – plan what’s in your hearts, and don’t be afraid of the words “Husband” or “Wife.” They’re yours now. Use them unabashedly.
