TESOctober Week 5: Tower
Featuring... well, everything.
If you had to explain CHIM in the simplest way possible, how would you go about it?
CHIM is something that I have devoted centuries to trying to explain through my texts. As one can imagine, it’s not so easy to explain. However, I suppose much of my focus has been on the HOW and not the WHAT. So I will not delve into achieving CHIM, and instead explain what it is. At least, how I have perceived it. Imagine if you will, that you witnessed all of history in a single moment. That you were able to see the entire universe. All of time, all of space. Old and new, eternal and finite. All in a single moment. That is what CHIM is like. Our reality itself, Aurbis, is shaped like a wheel. When you are on the inside of the universe, it appears to be an infinite expanse. Never ending, a near incomprehensible stretch of sheer reality that seems to be undeniably existent. However, when one leaves the wheel. When you are able to look upon the entire cosmos, and see it for its true self. For how small, how insignificant the Aurbris actually is when compared to the infinity beyond. This once infinite expanse becomes finite. What happens when you look at a disc from its side? When you see it in its entirety, without the distortion of roundness? It looks like a line. Seeing the wheel from its side reveals the truth, that it is finite. As well as the one truth, the name of God. I. Or I suppose WE, as many could achieve CHIM if they set out to do so. To put it simply, you learn that the entire Wheel is connected. That everything is finite, and that everything on the inside is small. For those of us that are able to except this reality, and return to the inside of the wheel. We achieve what is known as CHIM. We know that we are all one, that everything is I. And as such, we shed off our limits and are able to manipulate the Wheel freely if we so wish. There are those that are unable to comprehend the truth though. Those who are unable to accept that they are not truly an individual, and that what they once knew as infinite was so minuscule. They become trapped outside of the Aurbis, inside of the infinite void beyond, where they become a part of the void. Becoming nothing.
The Aurbis, the universe of The Elder Scrolls can be separated into five distinct layers:
Nirn, the heart of the Aurbis, home to Tamriel.
Mundus is the mortal plane that contains Nirn and the planets of the eight Aedra.
Oblivion is the space outside Mundus, and is home to the 16 Daedric Princes and myriad other pocket realms including the Soul Cairn.
Aetherius, the immortal plane. It is where the et’ada, the original spirits who later became the Aedra and Daedra came from. Magicka radiates from the stars and the sun to Nirn.
The Void is literal nothingness and emptiness outside the Aurbis.
