Boyf riends AU where Jeremy and Michael don’t know each other but they both love Apocalypse of the Damned (even though it’s obviously meant to be played with another person they play it alone) and they both go to the same con and Jeremy’s cosplaying one main character while Michael’s cosplaying the other

Jeremy’s having a good time with Christine, but he’s Nervous because crowds make him anxious but besides that they’re having fun going to panels and stuff

Michael goes with Brooke (who loves anime but would never tell anyone but Michael because they binge it together) and they’re walking through the merch hall and gushing at all of the cool cosplay and taking pictures

nobody really gets what they’re cosplaying as and mistakes them for other characters sometimes and it’s a little disappointing but it’s okay because “omg Brooke did you see that Homura Akemi cosplay it looks so good!!!” And “Christine!! The panel’s in thrEE MINUTES WE’RE GONNA BE LATE”

Eventually once they get through all of the Really Important Panels in their schedule Jeremy’s like “hey Christine there’s an arcade can we go there they’ve got Japanese games and stuff that look really cool can we go please please please please but only if you want to” and of course Christine agrees

Brooke really wanted to go to the merch hall first and Michael being the best friend he is was like “HELL YEAH” but by the time they’re done Michael is vibrating with excitement as they start walking to the arcade hall and they get there and michael’s just speechless. It’s so beautiful.

Michael gets in line for a DDR machine (it’s a classic) and he asks Brooke if she wants to go up there and she thinks about it. And then she looks at the other people in line. And then she sees Jeremy, who is also in line but is arguing too much with Christine over whether or not he should play DDR (“Christine I don’t know if this is such a good idea there are so many people” “Jeremy!! You’re so good at rhythm games though!!” “Christine there’s a difference between rhythm games and dancing games” “no there’s not they’re like the same thing!”) to have noticed Michael’s cosplay. And Brooke, having helped Michael with his cosplay, recognizes the other main character from AoTD that Jeremy is cosplaying.

She backs off, and looks towards the concession stands towards the other end of the same hall and says “no thanks, I’m gonna see what overpriced food they’ve got in the concessions and see if they’ve got any M&Ms!” And then she grabs Jeremy and is like “I know!! You should play with my friend!” And Jeremy is freaking out and Christine is encouraging Jerm (she recognized Michael’s cosplay bc she helped with Jerm’s) and Michael is confused but is fine with it

And so Jeremy relunctantly goes up there and looks at either the floor or the machine seemingly to commit it to memory because;; he’s embarrassed and nervous;; and Michael is choosing the song

And for a second they look at each other and they’re both like “oh no he’s cute” and “wait is he cosplaying-“ but then the song begins.

And so they dance. Christine is cheering on Jeremy and Brooke comes back and cheers on Michael and Christine is right, Jeremy is really weirdly good at it. He smokes Michael and he relaxes as he goes because hey that wasn’t so bad!

Their rounds end and they get off the machine and they look at each other and then they’re like “:0!!” Because!! He’s cosplaying AotD! Same hat!!!!!!! And he’s also really cute! Fuck!!

And so they start gushing about AotD, totally nerding out because they’ve never seen someone else in person that likes Apocalypse of the Damned and it’s just “there’s like no reason to use any other gun besides the shotgun, why did they bother putting anything else in???” “Yeah! Just keep upgrading at the shops as you go through the levels!! I feel bad for anyone who didn’t get the memo” “shotgun too OP, please nerf”

And they just click. Brooke and Christine watch The Gay from the sidelines, congratulating themselves and glad their friends have found someone. They exchange numbers and create the “‘Our Best Friends Are Pining Losers’ Support Group”

Their groups join together for the rest of the con, and Jeremy and Michael give each other their numbers and they gush about the other to their respective best friends exactly like Christine and Brooke knew would happen eventually

The con lasts a total of four days, and they stick together for all of it, only leaving the group when there were conflicting panel times or events that they wanted to go to

The con ends and they stay friends, the two groups of Brooke, Michael, Rich, and Jenna eventually assimilating with Chloe, Jeremy, Jake, and Christine until it’s just a Big Gay Group of Pining Losers

They go to the same con the next year, Jeremy and Michael cosplaying the Disco Zombie boss and the Jock Zombie boss from AotD respectively, and they end up kissing at the opening ceremony while Christine, Brooke, Jenna, and Rich (who decided to join them that year) watch from the sidelines and sigh in relief (and in Rich’s case, yell and cheer causing Michael and Jeremy no small amount of embarrassment), because finally.
