They really do it to themselves. At a certain point, it stops being the fault of the shippers. Eric simply can't write a singular straight man and a singular straight man-on-man relationship. And Jensen is cursed against his will, but cursed nonetheless.

I'm not really expecting anything interesting from the season finale anymore. I just think Homie, with all his weirdness, should end up in a mental hospital.

I was just wondering what kind of final we'd end up with, and I realized Homelander's death is truly the merciful one. Yeah, maybe my angst-hungry soul would have loved to see him lose his strength, but damn. As someone already wrote here, he would have killed himself immediately after realizing what happened. Btw, oh my god, the season started off great. I even got a bit of a Butchlander vibe! AO3, don't disappoint me.
