SLAY THE PRINCESS: Scene: The Razor

The Voice of the Broken

Pigeon !! Out of any small bird, I consider pigeons the most cheated. To be domesticated by humans only to be discarded to the streets after you went out of fashion is so sad.

But most importantly this ancestral domestication gives precedent for the Voice of the Broken’s actions in the TOWER. More than any other voice, the broken has very little loyalty to the well being and safety of the Long Quiet/Player. He also has what I attempted to display as poorly cropped wings, his flight feathers are almost entirely gone and the cut is both blunt and gagged. I modeled him after an abused pet, I find his blind willingness to give up his autonomy for the guidance of a being that he sees as higher and ethereal not to dissimilar than a domesticated animal who’ve never known proper care.

This is reflected in his design which features numerous injuries and unkempt feathers to represent his lack of regard to physical health. Also just like his real life counterpart he’s a prime target for being pushed around due to his smaller size and weaker strength;

The Cheated

Another favorite of mine, it took me far too long to decide on a design for him. I often debated weather or not he should be the pigeon of the group since once again , irl pigeon’s were cheated by humans however I feel the bird I settled on fits his person much more !

He is a Killdeer !!

Killdeer are birds known for pretending to be injured in order to led predators away from their nest.

Like cheated they are clever birds, willing to face predators much larger than them so that the one they’re protecting can make it another day.

Cheated takes a front row seat to leading the player through THE ARMS RACE. He takes the knife, has the idea to stack voices and tends to speak first when responding to a players decision.

While HERO tends to take a hype man role in most routes, it is Cheated who uplifts Hero and Broken through the numerous deaths. In this art he’s doing just that, comforting broken while hero fends her off. As we’ve seen from the tower, the Player/Long Quiet’s ability to fight back is often tied to whether his voices (excluding hero) have given up. The crafty man that Cheated is seems to have noticed this.

Cheated is secondarily based on Puss in Boots !! Specifically the movie The last Wish, in one of Puss’s lives he dies by cheating in a card game, like that scene, Cheated has a spare ace in his hat !

THE RAZOR

The design choices for the RAZOR were inspired by @voidpineapple

I found their art to be the most creative and sharp ! Take on how the princess would look, it felt like the most natural continuation of the haggard dress that the princess had in the 2nd chapter.

The pose that I chose for the RAZOR were based specifically on the moment were she said “you’re gonna make me come over to you, aren’t you” and then took one very confident step forward. I always found that scene kinda cute if not foreboding lol. Like a toddler walk with a knife towards to, yes you could definitely hurt me but aww

More than anything she needs to be confident, she’s killed the player/ Long Quiet already, and despite Hero’s best efforts to ward her off, he’s shaking. The only thing holding him firm in his place are the two most defenseless birds/voices behind him.

Why I decided to stay

The person you're in a relationship with should make you feel like you're walking on water, like the sun was something they created just for you and most importantly they should make you feel like you're enough. When I found out that my boyfriend had been sleeping with another girl, I vomited. I spoke with anxiety. I cried. I felt worthless and like I wasn't enough. But when he woke up a few hours later and found me crying, sat with my bin between my legs and shaking, he turned into the ideal boyfriend. He went and got me a glass of water, he helped me climb back into bed and he cuddled me, and while I knew what he had done, I felt a rush of calm and warmth. And when he began tell me sweet nothings, my stomach filled with butterflies. No ones ever made me feel that way. Being only 18, I've not really had much experience in the way of love, but it seems like everyone else has. And when I began dating my boyfriend and the further our relationship went, I began to believe that that is how love feels. And even after all of this, I still believe that I feel love towards him. He has the ability to calm me in my worst moments and make me happy in my darkest moments, something no ones done for me before. We can laugh about things endlessly and be ourselves around each other. He's my best friend. When I found out that he had been cheating, it felt like my world come crashing down. All I had known and felt for him was worthless and broken. But when he showed me love in little ways like caring for me that night, I couldn't help but melt back into his arms. And that's why I decided to stay. I know what you're thinking, that this is just manipulation and I'm being manipulated. But I'm a firm believer of giving people second chances and the opportunity to change and I think it's fair to do in this situation. The three people I've trusted to tell have all told me I'm stupid for staying, that's he's scum and I'm worth so much more. But when it comes down to it, it would hurt me more to leave than it would to face the facts and rebuild around them.
