Anyone else a fan of the Rev. Richard Coles' novels about his murder solving vicar Daniel who falls in love with his best friend policeman. If you like Good Omens you might like this too. It's very English and there's a bit of angst and a bit gay.

He also has a thing for waistcoats and bow ties now he's ditched the cassock and dog collar and is the only Vicar in the UK to have a No. 1 single. All round cool guy.

The first book has been adapted for TV and is on this week.

You know what, I love whatever the fuck infra materialism is, it’s just one small book in a vast game about so much more but the idea is just so captivating. Revolutionary energy can make your crops grow bigger, make you psychic and ,in the most advance state, allow a stateless classless moneyless society that’s utopian and lacks things like hunger. Not only is it hilarious but also I think it can be interpreted as two different metaphors.

The first one is the religiosity of Mazovianism/ Marxism, as the magical powers that plasm gives people can be seen as an exaggeration of how Marxist thought exists in its modern form as some would describe as a political cult with scripture that can’t be challenged, idles and martyrs, with plasm being the extension of this into the idea of miracles and the erosion of science and its use I’m Marxism (even if science itself is a falible concept seen through only human eyes and a western lens)

The second metaphor is what I think the authorial intention of what infra materialism and plasm is supposed to be, it is hope taking manifest form and how revolution can lead to a world some people could think of as impossible even though all it takes is a small amount of faith. I think this is best shown when making the structure that collapses a second time with the student communists, as just for a second it stays up a tinny bit longer than it did last time, maybe proving that plasm is real or showing the “copium” that modern Marxists need. Either way what I think this points out is that Elysium is a world of the mundane but also magical (as we can also see with the mega rich light bending guy) political energy can break physics, and in our own mundane world we can sure try to break our normative systems and what is seen as possible and build something new and out of even our own imagination, that is what communism is, that is what anarchism is. It’s what we need

Richard Coles jokes that he and Jimmy were aiming to 'take down the thatcher government with gay covers of 70s disco hits' (paraphrasing) but yeah no genuinely: them doing this and making these videos and being very loudly and visibly OUT was huge and very much a political statement. Even within queer culture itself they were somewhat revolutionary, with gay culture and lesbian culture having been quite separate from each other, the communards absolutely made a statement by being a gay duo who featured, celebrated, uplifted and partied with women
