Some Rough Sketches I did this week. I'm playing around with some PJ designs, as well as stuff for a future cult plotline I've been imagining, among other things I won't reveal just yet. I also had the sudden idea of PJ's dowser growing to resemble a nightmare. These all require refinement, of course, and I may digitally color a few of these parts. Hope you all have a good new year!

The little friend : The crows keep her company. Always have.

The outsider looking in : A reflection, or is she the reflection?

Forgotten dream : Where have you been?!

The third one : Compensates for the trauma.

Fear of Future : Hoping it's just the anxiety talking.

What was chased : Needed it to live... but am I still alive?

The back entrance : The outsider is scratching to get in.

The eyes within : Something was here before her.

Ever looking : Each branch an eye, more growing by the day.

What was lost : The shape no longer is like this.

Dream of flight : Ocean spray and ocean breeze, uplifting.

PJ Rage Concept - Dowser Arms

This was an idea I had for PJ's rage state, where her Dowser would grow into large arms. While I since have moved away from using this idea in PJ's story in favor of something else, I do think the visual is cool in concept and wanted to share it. That's not to say such growth is implausible for the dowser, however...

Do you have issues walking through doors with those... horns? Antlers?

“It’s called a Dowser I think... not sure why. It seems to grow branches when I use too much psychic power. Getting through doors can be a bit difficult if they’ve grown a lot. I can’t always tell how big they are without a mirror, so this is a constant problem.”

what would happen if the dowser was surgically removed? (btw love your oc)

It all depends on how the dowser is removed.

If PJ’s entire brain is removed, dowser and all, it’ll be like what happens with most brains in the Psychonauts universe. She’ll be aware and able to use her psychic abilities just fine, and maybe, if she’s fully in control of it, her dowser and it’s roots will grow and give her locomotion. Her body, however, won’t be a TV seeking zombie like everyone else. Instead, her body will be completely catatonic, and may likely die shortly after the extraction.

In contrast, if only the dowser is removed from her head and brain, PJ’s body will not survive. Even if extreme care is taken, her brain will not survive separation.

Overgrown

A concept of a nightmare PJ sometimes has, of her dowser growing out of control. Is it an irrational fear, or a glimpse of a possible future? Hopefully the former...
