The Druggie
This guy messaged me and said how cool it was that I’m into Supernatural and Doctor Who and music (this, I learned, really doesn’t make me some sort of special snowflake). He also talked about how much he liked my hometown, since he was from Johnson City. He hitched a ride to my town, and then promptly asked if he could stay with me since he had nowhere else to go. Keep in mind, this was after two short conversations on OkCupid. I told him no, because, honestly, who the hell does that? I made the mistake of telling him about a concert I was going to with my coworker and his roommates and said he could tag along. I made a further mistake by telling him where we were grabbing pizza and beer before the show. He met us there, and i instantly got a terrible vibe. He knew one of my friend’s roommates, Sassy. Sassy was friends with The Druggie’s ex. She ignored him the whole night. The Druggie told me he liked my glasses. He then asked if I wore green because I smoked. “What?” “Y’know, if you smoke grass.” “Dude…I just like the color green…” He tried showing me a cassette tape he’d bought at the record store across town, as if to impress me. My friend, Sassy, and Fratty (the other room mate, who is a total sweetheart) decided we should bounce to another bar. The Druggie followed us. He kept sending me texts, then asking if I got said texts. He would then explain what was in the text, even when I said I’d read it. He asked if we could be alone somewhere. I said no, I hardly ever got to hang out with Sassy and Fratty and they’re really fun. He followed us on to the concert venue, where the bouncer studied my ID so he could easily find me on OkCupid later. My friend and I went straight to the bar, because I just wanted to get away from this dude. The Druggie panicked, and left the room, texting me that he was having “an emotional moment.” It was a punk show, so there wasn’t much emotion going on. While he was gone, Sassy told me about why she didn’t like him. Turns out, he was an emotionally abusive psycho. Sassy and my friend flanked me so The Druggie wouldn’t be able to get near me when he came back. He texted me (again) during the show and finally I just said I couldn’t do it, I had just gotten out of a long term relationship and I just wasn’t ready to date yet. He disappeared for the rest of the night, but texted me to tell me he hitchhiked his way to McDonald’s on the other end of town. He sent me fifteen messages the next day, to which I replied, “I’m at work.” Never heard from him again.
