James McNeill Whistler — Nocturne in Black and Gold — The Falling Rocket

One of my favorite paintings (and my desktop background). The unconventional name is explained in part by Whistler’s love of using music related terms for his paintings (hence the nocturne) — very fitting for such a harmonious piece. Pure beauty.
