Haiper and the bio chip - character analysis and theories
Ok to preface this, i am working with what the streamers have shown us of their characters through actions and dialogue with other characters, if they decide to retconn things later this may all fall apart. This is what I think can be inferred from the story told so far, and, imo, nothing anyone has done/said NEEDS to be retconned, everything could be written in the story and used. Some of the evidence I've provided has little to do with my theory, but it provides context to the characters' thought processes and assumptions. Finally this is not me hating on anyone, don't harass the streamers, etc.
Haiper has reliably been shown to deduce things accurately from the information he's given and his own observations, which leads to him trusting his instinct and stating things as fact, even when it's just a half baked deduction
The chip Multi has implanted in Haiper can malfunction/not work as well as expected if the body is too weak (Multi said so himself while in character)
Haiper is not a human, he is a fox or a fox hybrid
Graf is a witcher, which makes his metabolism different than a human (unsure if witcher is technically a different race than human or just a human variant, so for now we'll go with human variant)
Animal players' biology/metabolism is different than human players
Haiper got infected with the radiation, and got negative effects
Graf got infected with radiation, and got positive effects bc witcher
Graf's eyes have been changing colors (it seems to line up with sneaky behavior, but this could be coincidence)
Ishan pointed out the color changing to Haiper, which made him connect the eye color change with the perceived behaviour change (usually an abrupt change in topic)
Graf now reports exclusively to Multi about what he knows, and he seems to be hiding a lot less information from him than before his chip
Multi extracted Haiper's DNA before implanting the chip, a procedure that has been shown to be physically exhausting with Foolish and Quackity
Multi asked Haiper probing questions about the resistance after injecting the chip
Haiper viewed the insistence with which Multi asked about the resistence as proof Multi was trying to dismantle it and thus siding with the Feds
Multi expect the chips to make those who have it fully honest and compliant with him
Multi can also use the chip to check on the health of those who have it
Haiper made it a point to replace the names of the resistance members in his mind with their code names, to fully forget their real names, BEFORE talking to Multi and getting the chip implanted
Multi gave Haiper iodine pills after the implantation, but told him not to take it yet, and those pills will not cure him, just stop/slow down drastically the progress of his symptoms
Multi told Haiper to record his symptoms
Multi told Haiper he should investigate the Entity and essentially make a scientist of himself for the good of humanity
Haiper has said to Maximus that he doesn't think the north people are a good fit for the resistance, but he was willing to put aside personal conflicts for the resistance's work, he views taking down the Feds as more important than anything else (Ash has the same position as long as the north ppl don't leak their existence/identities)
After having told several people about Multi being evil/with the feds/controlling Graf, Haiper started feeling bad/like he did something wrong and redirected to the tasks Multi gave him
Ash added to the list of proof pointing to Multi being a Fed, but also told Haiper it might be more complicated than Multi just being on their side
Haiper believes the North members of the resistance told the Fed, and therefor Multi, about the resistance's existence (either willingly or through force/blackmail)
What can be inferred somewhat accurately:
Fox/fox hybrid brains probably differs from human/witcher brains in how they work
Haiper was a lot weaker than Graf was when implanted with the chip (since he was under negative effects instead of positive ones, AND his DNA had just been extracted), therefor the chip did not work on him as well as it did on Graf at the time of implantation
The chip Multi implanted in Haiper did not work as well as expected because of multiple factors. Haiper was weakened twice over (radiation and DNA extraction), and as an animal hybrid his biology is ostensibly different than a humans so Graf cannot be used as a baseline of how well the chip worked. This malfunction allowed Haiper to retain a little more free will against Multi, allowing him to lie to him by omission (instead of fully inventing things and trying to pass them as truth, which tends to be harder to sell than omitting information from the truth). Having already prepared his mind by forcefully forgetting the real name of the members of the resistance he knew the names of made it even easier. However he did reveal the real names of the members he didn't have codenames for, which he wouldn't have had he been fully in his right mind, so the chip is not innactive! He's also following Multi's order so far (entity investigation and symptom logging), which could also be viewed as the chip working!
Haiper has not been cured of the radiation, he's still weak and hungry, so, until he's cured or get a little better, the chip risks being similarly inefficient and allowing him a similar amount of free will. It may become a bit more efficient once he recovers from the DNA extraction, but as long as his radiation symptoms make him this weak, there is no way the chip will make him as obedient and forthcoming to Multi as Graf.
Now people have been saying that him telling ppl Multi is with the Feds is fail rp. Multi himself apparently said that this ruins his characters and he might as well be killed of after this, which i feel is a little dramatic. From Haiper's pov and with the way his character has been behaving up until now, him taking what he learned while going through the procedures and deducing Multi works for the Feds is realistic.
However his conclusion is wrong! From what we know as viewers who have access to all the povs, Multi has been doing what the federation tells him, and he wants to collaborate with them, but he isn't working with them/isn't employed by them in any official capacity! The federation is more than happy to treat him the same as any other islander, not like one of their employees.
This gives Multi the opportunity to make Haiper seem delusional or paranoid, he could even blame it on the radiation poisoning since Haiper had been open about that with people. This could then be used as a cautionary tale to keep people from trying to explore his facilities, which makes him seem more powerful and benevolent to the other islanders. This could be used by Multi for his long term goals, even if it derails his immediate plans. That's what happens in collaborative storytelling, this is what loosely scripted smp are all about!
