I’ve done it- I’ve finally figured out my one major critique of Black Sails!

so, they packaged Silver's betrayal as forgivable and 'right' by showing how Jack and Max were able to clean things up and restore order and peace to Nassau, but that implies that it was the best outcome for all parties involved when it obviously was NOT for the maroons. there should've been an arc to show just how outnumbered the pirates would be in their war- against not only England but all of society which hates their creed of existence. that would've driven home the point that this war wouldn't have been won once it actually began against the world- and it would've been leading the Maroons to their death. that arc was hinted at with Julius, but it wasn't totally finished. it should've been a prevalent thought as John was laying plans to write his treaties- if not to John (because he only values Madi and Flint) at least to the audience. like...maybe have Julius support John's contingency plans to stop Flint from starting the war in full, but for a more righteous reason of protecting his people from a suicide war.  Julius should’ve been used to show the moral reason for John’s betrayal outside the selfish reasons John was actually driven by- that way the show could package the treaties as the best actual outcome for all parties.
