“Just go in, Y/N. Come on.”
Your best friend, MJ, was trying to persuade you to finally walk through the house doors into the party that Liz was hosting. You could hear the pounding music through the doors. Your classmates pushed pass you to enter the party, laughing as they did.
“What if he’s there?” you whispered, referring to the boy you had a crush on. You set your hand on the door handle, hesitating still.
MJ rolled her eyes. “Then you say hello. Let’s go, it’s cold out here.”
You tucked a piece of hair behind your ear, took a deep breath to gather your nerves, then pushed the door open. You stumbled into the house, the warm air hitting you suddenly. There were so many dancing couples in the cleared living room, that you could hardly tell anyone apart. Flash was in the position of DJ, a pair of sunglasses perched on his nose. Your eyes scanned the crowd, but you couldn’t see your crush.
You followed MJ over to some chairs, sitting down on the seat with a dull thump. MJ sat next to you, pulling her drawing book from her jacket pocket and a pencil from behind her ear. She began to sketch as you watched the people dancing, letting a small sigh leave your lips.
“I’ve never had this big of a crush on anyone,” you said, playing with the sleeve of your jacket. “Let alone two people.”
MJ nodded, continuing to draw.
“Spider-Man is just… so cool. But then again, so is Peter, and I see Peter every single day.” You frowned, turning your head to see what MJ was so invested in drawing.
“Is that me?” you said, raising an eyebrow. She had drawn your face so conflicted, your eyes shining with frustration.
“I like to draw people in crisis, you know that.” MJ closed her notebook, setting her pencil on the cover gently. “Look, Y/N, I think-”
“Y/N?”
A different, deeper voice interrupted MJ’s lighter tone. You looked up, your eyes growing wide at the sight of Peter Parker standing before you. He looked nervous; his hands were twisting his shirt and he was biting his lip.
You sat up straight, lacing your hands together to try and hide how badly they were trembling. He had never looked cuter than in the glow the faint purple and green lights strung around the room cast on him. He was wearing a leather jacket that made him look faintly like a greaser from that one book you had to read in school two years ago. What was it called?
“Yes?”
Peter motioned toward the back door. “Could I talk to you?”
“Y-yeah, sure!” You stood up, throwing an anxious glance at MJ. She just flashed you a wide smile, then went back to sketching.
You followed Peter down the hallway, your thoughts scrambling. What did he want? Oh god, what if he knew you liked him?
He held the back door open for you. You stepped through into the fresh night air, giving him a faint smile as you passed him. When he let the door swing shut, the music was deafened drastically, so you could only hear your own nervous breathing and your crazily beating heart.
Peter leaned on the railing of the patio. He looked like he was trying to his hardest to remind cool, but his hands kept fidgeting. The outside lights cast a soft orange glow on his face, lighting up his brown eyes. You realized as your heart thumped suddenly that his hair had grown out from the haircut he had gotten two months ago; his curls were back.
“I, um, heard you had a crush on me.”
Your heart plunged through the boards of the patio. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry.”
“No! No, it’s okay,” Peter said quickly, rushing forward. He stopped just a few inches from you. “I mean, to be honest, I’ve liked you for a while, too.”
“You have?” Your face had grown hot, and you hoped he didn’t notice.
“Yeah, and, to be honest again, I heard you talking to MJ. Spider-Man is pretty cool.”
Your mouth fell open and you took a couple steps back.
“I didn’t mean to listen in on your conversation! I promise, I’m so sorry,” Peter stammered.
Your mouth managed to form words by some miracle, “It’s okay, we weren’t exactly talking quietly.”
“Anyways,” Peter said, stepping forward. He reached for your hand. You let him take it, your fingers sliding through his. Your hands fit together perfectly, like they had been made just for each other. Your faces drifted toward each other until your noses bumped.
Peter suddenly stopped. “Wait. Is this okay? I don’t want to screw things up.”
“It’s fine,” you responded quickly, closing the gap. The kiss was short and sweet; your lips barely grazed his. He pulled couple inches away.
“I have something else to confess,” he said. “I’m Spider-Man.”
Your mouth parted. “What?”
Peter chuckled softly. “I’ve never told anyone that besides Ned.”
“You do look like him,” you said, making the connection in your head.
“How? I wear a mask as Spider-Man,” Peter said.
You smiled. “I mean you both have the same sort of stance. Confident, but also with a hint of nervousness.”
“Oh, that’s good that I come off confident,” Peter said, grinning. You put a hand on the back of his neck, pulling him in for another kiss. This one was longer; it was a real, proper, kiss. Your lips fit together just as nicely as your hands. You thought you were going to melt into a puddle and slide right through the floorboards of the patio.
You then pulled back. “The Outsiders!” You almost yelled.
Peter frowned. “What?”
“Never mind.” You closed your eyes, letting his lips capture yours again. His hands slid to your waist, and time stopped.
