Some more Korean reads 🇰🇷📚
난 요즘 많이 좋아 😌
Korean fiction has been gaining more popularity over the last couple of years. We have seen some really quirky and cool stories getting translated for a wider international audience.
Today, I would like to rec The Plotters by Un Su Kim
Some people say this is John Wick meets Haruki Murakami. I’m not a fan of Murakami whose works remind me of a half drunk man recounting something strange while sitting in a jazz bar as it rains outside. Ugh.
The Plotters is much, much more fun! It’s also a dark comedy with some absurdist elements but if you like down-on-their luck killers, guns, explosions, a man worried someone is about to murder him via explosive toilet - if you like the world of John Wick and Korean crime genre - this is the book for you!
I am obsessed with my new glass and ice coffee!
Lately I've been very unmotivated, I feel like I've lost the initial spark, the initial desire to learn the language and I don't know if I should keep pushing or give myself a break.
Also I am about to finish The Plotters by Kim Un-Su, and I am quite unimpressed. Maybe it is the translation (I am reading it in Russian) or just the overall plot and writing, but it is very uneventful and I don't really care about any of the characters.
Should I write more about books? Maybe Korean books specifically?
“I am Ian Chesterton. This lady is…” He faltered a second, “...my wife, Barbara.”
He gave Barbara an apologetic shrug. She could see the logic in his lie, and found she didn’t mind at all.

From Doubleday, translator Sora Kim-Russell, and South Korean novelist Un-Su Kim, The Plotters. This is his debut in English, and the author is already getting rave reviews. The Washington Post describes this as a “ gripping portrait of a killer for hire.” (Read the full review here.)
2018 was a year of ups and downs, and I expect no less from 2019. But whatever else the new year brings, it will also bring a slew of good books, including buzzy debuts (Sophie Mackintosh! Kristen …
THE PLOTTERS 1/29: “This stylish thriller follows a professional assassin who works for a host of shadowy underworld kingpins known as “plotters,” but soon begins to question the morality of his profession. With such literary touches as a library headquarters for assassins, this one may pander a bit to bookish audiences—and I’m all in favor of that.”
October wrap up ✌🏻
I was busy this month so only read two books, but I did reach my 2023 goal 😌
