I know that the fact that the fandom even exists is probably my greatest contribution to the shuttle fandom, but i'd like to throw this into the ring as a strong contender for second place:

so i am having Thoughts about what a TV miniseries of The Shuttle would look like

#I don't have a lot so far BUT #I know there would be parallel shots of Nigel and Mount Dunstan both returning to England on their respective voyages #but there would be subtle differences to show the differences in them #AND (this one is long bear with me)#the scene in church where betty prays would have to be redone since she says it in her head but it is Important to me to include it #so I think in that scene she doesn't say her prayer while there (because we wouldn't get to hear it) but goes along with the service #and then it's like in the book when she gets back to stornham-- she reads penzance's letter and then goes out to the gardens #to see kedgers and that all happens but then there's that moment where she thinks she hears the bell tolling and it clearly hits her hard #and kedgers leaves to do something for a moment and she walks away #and she has a moment in a quiet little spot (those with quick eyes will notice it's the spot where MD told her the story of Red Goldwyn)#and it's there that she says it and she says it aloud this time #and it starts in this heart-wrenching whisper but at the very end she says the last 'do not let him die!' at full volume #like. she's kneeling on the ground head bowed hands clasped but at the last line she looks up as she says it #and it creates this picture of someone who is absolutely and wholly powerless for the first time in her life with no one else to turn to #begging for the life of the one she loves because she herself can do nothing. and it just has this feeling of near-despair #mixed with a sense of hope because what if someone is there?? what if someone is listening?? what if she has been heard??#but before long the bell tolls.#(i would make so many hypothetical people cry with this heheheh)#the shuttle #I'M GOING THROUGH A PHASE RIGHT NOW OKAY

I feel like the tumblr girlies should know I have started reading The Shuttle. I'm invested enough I will probably finish it, but I'm assuming/hopeful its charm is maybe not immediately apparent and blossoms more later. 😅
