lovers only when people aren't watching

Spencer had spectacularly avoided Amelia for an entire day after the incident in the bedroom. Not that they were best friends who talked on a daily basis, but it had been a while since he was dodging out of hallways and turning behind trees so she wouldn’t see him. It was entirely too uncomfortable for him to face any kind of emotions right now, and honestly, the more he thought about them, the more he wanted to get drunk. Sloppily and embarrassingly drunk.
Of course he should’ve known it was only a matter of time before fate cursed them and put them on a project together. Now, thirty minutes in to planting flowers with Amelia, and a group of kids also assigned to the project, the tension was thick and real. They didn’t speak, but whenever he glanced up, they ended up both quickly glancing away. While other seniors chatted and laughed, Spencer dug into the ground with heavy thoughts.
After an hour of planting, he was over it. It was hot, he was dirty, and the silent tension between the two was becoming too much for him to handle. All he could think about was the sex, and then the forbidden words, and then the sight of her rushing out of the cabana. All he could focus on was everything he should not be feeling, and how confusing it was. He hated confusing.
At a water break, he grabbed Amelia’s hand. “Let’s get out of here,” he whispered, “we need to talk. I can’t take this anymore.”
