Oooh I quite like Back to the Future! Or comedies like Ace Ventura! It’s hard to watch anything around here because Aileen won’t stop watching her own shows and hog the remote all to herself. I also really like Doctor who. I’m currently watching the 7th Doctor, and I like him a lot! I don’t like scary movies so much..

THURSDAY 26 DECEMBER The group flew back to London to resume ‘The Beatles Christmas Show’ First Officer Bill Stewart kept an eye on temporary co-pilot Ringo Starr, who said, ‘This is better than a car - and no roundabouts.’ Pete Shotton and his wife Beth, Nigel Walley and his wife Pat, and Cynthia Lennon and her mother Lillian Powell also travelled down and saw the second show. Shotton recalled, ‘As we approached Finsbury Park, however, the traffic grew so hopeless that I decided to complete the journey on foot. I then found myself engulfed in a scene of utter pandemonium, the like of which I’d never before witnessed. The streets were packed with screaming teenagers and dozens off lustered bobbies vainly attempting to reroute traffic and control the hysterical mob.’ After the second show, the Shottons and the Walleys went to John’s flat in Emperor’s Gate. As the Walleys were leaving at 4am, John jumped over the bonnet of their mini, injuring his ankle in the process. <…> '…Then of course the Beatles came along, and everybody’s career went for a burton! We all suffered because another era had come along. We [the Tornados] had known them for a few years before that of course, from playing with Billy up in places like Blackpool and Liverpool. We played with them at the NME poll concert in Wembley. They really were every bit as good as everyone had said, but to see them getting ready for the show - well that was really something. They just wandered around, looking as if they couldn’t care less. They set up their equipment with the sort of air that said it didn’t matter to them whether it was right or wrong. We watched them and thought it’d be a miracle if they ever got through their part of the programme. They were kidding about and joking. But as soon as they started working - it was electric. I also went to see their Christmas Show at the Finsbury Park Astoria, but you couldn’t hear anything other than screaming. I was a friend of the guy who ran the Odeon cinemas, he was the big white chief, and he invited me along. I was invited backstage and it was good to catch up with them. When we played the summer season in Blackpool the following summer, they came over to see us. I got to know Paul and George quite well. I interviewed them for the Record Mirror.
