bad end theater polycule send post
We all need to give some love to things we enjoyed in the past. I’ve loved many games before being introduced to Omori! One I very much loved at the time was Bad End Theatre. It was such a unique game, even if short, and I loved how it revealed beauty and purpose in both bad endings, and good endings. So many stores, both inside and outside the game’s main setting.
I rewatched a gameplay.. and found myself loving all the characters! Currently I really like The Underling.. but it’s probably because they remind me of Omori. Especially design-wise. I also just really love the main artstyle of the game in general! I like trying out new styles every now and again.
The Underling! From Bad End Theatre!
theyre so squishy i love them
I played Bad End Theater yesterday and it was so good and I highly recommend you play it if you haven’t before you read this post because spoilers. It just hit me how important the symbolism of everyone specifically burning to death together in the true ending is since the whole story is a parallel to Tragedy who is narrating everything and her experience with homophobia and being taken away from her girlfriend. The fire that they’re all trapped in is like burning for all eternity in hell which I assume is something that they were told would happen to them given the homophobic community that they were from. In the ending song there’s even a lyric that says, “share in my misery for all eternity,” and the phrasing of “for all eternity,” reminds me of the phrase ‘burn in hell for all eternity.’ But the way that everyone can leave is through the Maiden’s prayers. Which, one, it’s very important that the path to defeating Tragedy after the true end can only be achieved through the Maiden’s true end since the Maiden is the character most heavily projected onto by Tragedy. But specifically, to escape she chooses to pray, but it’s not the Christian God who comes down to save her, it’s the player who is also the lost love of Tragedy. Who also is the person who the Overlord is most heavily based on. So the Maiden is basically praying to her lost love. Not to mention that in order to get any of the true endings, you have to get the Overlord’s first so that you can have her choose to spare the Underling. This means that despite the cruelty that’s been inflicted upon the Maiden and the Overlord or Tragedy and the Player, in order to find their happy endings, they must choose not to inflict this pain onto others. Specifically, by The Overlord choosing not to kill the Underling, it’s like the Player choosing not to do their best to help the characters instead of letting Tragedy win and make her continue to perpetuate the pain that they’ve been given into the world. Instead, the Maiden, or Tragedy must believe in what they want to believe, in a much kinder thing than what their religion has taught them to believe that God is, and she chooses to believe in her love, and her love comes to save her. Together, they can write the happy endings that the world refused to give them when they were younger.
The Underling is a Cannibal (Headcanon)
