Sometimes, Tony had moments of disorientation. It wasn’t anything bad not really, just seeing someone who looked like the ghost of a memory from another human life, or who he was almost sure he’d seen when just a phantom of a god instead of in human shape at all. Seeing Loki had been like that, that flicker of recognition there and gone again before the differences jumped out at him from the phantoms of past-life memory.
This time, the person he saw walking down the street was different, that same sense of memory, but not the same. It wasn’t a phantom of the past reincarnated in a new face. It was a face he knew.
Still, he hesitated to approach at first, because even if he recognized someone, that didn’t mean they’d know him as anyone but Tony Stark... because that’s who he was now, in this life, down to the core of himself, but that didn’t mean he’d forgotten his favorite tinkerers of ages gone by, not since he remembered everything, and it was enough to spur him into action.
He might be wrong, it might be someone else very different from who he thought it was, but that didn’t matter. Hurrying to catch up with the other figure on the dark street, he fell into step beside him and looked sideways, trying to place if his initial impression was wrong. After all, the person in question would have to be over two hundred years by now, if they were still alive, and while he’d seen a hell of a lot, he’d also been... sheltered. Things like vampires and similar remained a myth to him.
He didn’t expect it to be the same person, even if the resemblance was startling, but... if the man didn’t have any issue with conversation, he could at least do that.
“Not to ruin your night if you have somewhere to be, but can I just say that you look a bit familiar? And not in an ‘I fought a villain that looks like you’ kind of way in case you’ve ever gotten that.” He paused a beat. “Not that you would have.”
Grimacing, Tony cleared his throat. “Hello, I’m Tony Stark, and you are?”
