Do you have any advice for a Destinykin (as in Bungie's Destiny) for trying to incorperate the Festival of the Lost and The Dawning as holidays into their practice?
We’ve never been asked about holidays before, but I’m glad you did, seeing as this can be applied to lots more things and lots more canons.
First off, I actually would save dates for last unless you’re simply going off of when the events occur in-game (since Destiny events occur during certain time periods, as would other multiplayer games with an online format.)
Beyond that, look at any lore provided in canon or even through memories to come up with associations. You’ll want a focus for the holidays, like commemorating an event or a person/being/deity or a focus on a concept such as a new year or honoring a certain natural force (like elements or life or death or a whole planet.)
The more is provided for you in canon associations-wise, the better. Colors, symbols, names, even partial or full invocations or prayers may occur in some canons. Don’t be afraid to modify these a bit, either, if your memories are different and you wish to go off of those.
Any activities or rites should probably follow the theme of the holiday. If the focus is, say, on the element of water, incorporate things like watercolor devotional art or a ritual bath, or if it’s a celebration of a certain event in canon history, maybe go so far as to make some sort of script for a reenactment or write dramatic poetry about it.
I’m sorry I can’t get more specific since I haven’t played the game in so long, but we do have a focus on “making your own” here since your own associations and memories will likely differ from a lot of other peoples’. Creativity is absolutely encouraged and I wish you good luck and I hope you have fun with it!
