Thoughts on Marina's (unreleased) song Art of Letting Go??

Definitely one of my favorite Marina outtakes, I discovered it last winter when it first leaked and have had it on loop since along with Demons & Angels, Absent Love, Holiday, and Water Under the Bridge. The Art of Letting Go such a lyrically strong song, like there are so many meaningful messages in it!! I mean really, lots of artists love talking big shit like "yeah I'm over it I'm over everything I'm at my best it's all behind me" but what about the process of getting there? Marina sings about the vulnerability of moving on in this song and that's something we like to try to do behind closed curtains, so it's a bit of a relief of a song in how raw and exposed it feels

Vocally I feel like it was one of the more interesting variations of L+F which dulled her usual quirky vocals when compared to her previous (and following) works, so it was quite refreshing to have the intensity of the chorus juxtaposed with the softness of the bridge. The runs she has in this song when she says "swallowed up by a black hole" are something very reminiscent of TFJ, as is her overall singing voice in the demo. I miss TFJ Marina vocals all the time LOL I just want her to scream and laugh in songs again abhblhbsdhf

Also I kinda adored that it was very musically simple because I felt like what is there, the bass with plucked electronic sounds over it, would have fit in pretty well with the rest of L+F while also giving the listener a bit of a break from the heavily overproduced sound of the album. It also allows you to focus more on what she's saying, which is something that can be kind of difficult with Marina's singing, especially with the heavy reverb in this song meant to create an atmosphere of being in a large, empty room (which also fits the meaning of the song). Not sure why, but especially when she sings high, she can become incomprehensible LMFAO so not only is it, like, matched to her actual voice, but it creates this certain aura of being stripped back to the basics, which, like the reverb, again ties into the overall meaning of the song. Only the chorus is music-heavy (and even then, I say that within the context of a naked song). I also just like a song that has bass being the driving force of the audio, and definitely the bass being featured sparingly makes it much more powerful when it shows up (chorus + 2nd verse, where it's a solo instrument which sounds SOOOO GOOD)

Basically this song slaps ass and everyone should listen to it
