Something was wrong with her, she could feel it. Her throat burned with thirst, but she had chugged twenty bottles of water with no satisfaction. When Cole cut his finger on the cracked bar, Selena nearly reached out and licked the bleeding wound. Licked it! Yet still, when she thought about it, she regretted not doing so. She was terrified that something was wrong with her, but still couldn’t bring herself to go to a doctor.
So, she sat herself in front of the studio, chugging more water in a desperate attempt to quench the thirst.

a fading memory
Sometimes when she’s just about to fall asleep or has just woken up, she sees it. Her mother’s golden hair flying in the wind as her fathers drives down the highway. It was the annual trip to...she couldn’t even remember anymore. But Cyndi Lauper was singing on the radio and sometimes when the song played at a store, it was like she was almost on that sunny highway again, singing along with her parents.

Nick chuckled, “…good philosophies are all I got.”
She smiled. “Better that than bad philosophies, no?”
Emma’s said it once, and she’ll say it a thousand times.
She hates the outdoors.
Well, not the outdoors really; mostly the bugs. They were pesky and annoying and always ruined her fun. That’s exactly what they were doing as she trailed along behind her group during her history class’ field trip. Which was a hike. It seemed a bit unfitting for the class, but supposedly the professor had found a really cool, ancient landmark left by some settlers. Nobody really bothered building in the area because it was so rocky, so the monument had been preserved.
She had to admit, it piqued her interest, but there wasn’t enough historical significance in the world that could keep her from being annoyed by stupid gnats and flies. At least she wasn’t like some of the people in her class and actually knew how to dress for a hike. The only downside was her hiking boots needed repairs, so she threw on a pair of old running shoes instead. That would probably come back to bite her in the ass.
Amara was the only reason she was willing to suffer through it. Her fellow mutant was so damn excited about the trip that Emma couldn’t resist signing up. Damn her. If she falls off a cliff, it’s all Amara’s fault.
That is, if they could get going already. They were still at the head of the trail, waiting for the professor to make sure everyone had enough water and protein bars to last them the hour and a half walk to the monument and back. He had to lend some supplies to a couple kids, but thankfully the man liked to be prepared twofold.
