🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston is a standard light romance with a paranormal twist. This story had many of the elements I love: a long-absent adult sibling returns home, a main character who can see and communicate with ghosts, a supportive romance with fun banter, and themes of forgiveness and belonging. Also, the town mayor, a golden retriever, is a very good boy. The Dead Romantics is a book about finding joy, even in grief. This is the third book I’ve read this summer where the plot centers on the loss of a father. My own dad died when I was in my early 20s, so these stories resonate personally for me. I understand the surreal nature of acting as host at a wake and cracking jokes with family once the visitors have gone. This book would be a good fit for fans of Emily Henry and Christina Lauren. ⚰️ BUDDY READ MINI REVIEW ⚰️ Not me actually starting off the month well with buddy reads! 💪💪 (Well, I probably shouldn't pat myself on the back too quickly, as I signed up for like 7 of them and I've only read one so far...but anyway 😂) I'm taking part in @novellybritt's #bamboozledbookclub this month with THE DEAD ROMANTICS by @heyashposton, and it was the first book club book I read this month. I really liked this sweet story! The family dynamics were one of my favorite things about the book, as well as the sort of "meta" aspect since the MC is a writer and her ghostly love interest is her editor. This is about a 🌶️ level of spice, so if you prefer rom-coms that aren't too steamy, this one's great for you! Many thanks to @Berkley for eARC. #BookReview The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Dead Romantics is beautiful and emotive paranormal contemporary that follows Florence Day, a ghostwriter for a bestselling romance author, who no longer believes in romance or happily ever after and was having very bad day – New editor, Ben, refused to give her extension of deadline for the last book she is ghostwriting for the author; Her ex’s new book is coming out that is actually her story he stole; and she receives news of her father’s death that makes her return to her hometown that chased her away a decade ago. To make it worse when she returns home she finds ghost of Ben at her family’s funeral parlor. It was interesting to see how she will deal with loss, ghost of new editor, family wounds, her past with the town, and the deadline of the book. The story is about grief, loss, death, betrayal, unresolved past, self-belief, confidence, friendship, acceptance, and learning the meaning of love. The best part is the setting of Days Gone Funeral Home and Mairmont, its community, characters and most of all how death, loss, and grief is dealt in the story. it was beautiful the way the author represented it, how every person deals with their loss, and I loved how Day family chose to deal with it. Even though the theme of the book is serious and emotive, it doesn’t feel too poignant. There is equal amount of love, happiness, and comfort. Overall, this is poignant, touching, heartwarming, beautiful and ghostly paranormal contemporary with many layers and amazing quirky characters. See out check list and quote in 2nd, 3rd pic.
