Yes hello my boy needs a wholesome family. He's tall and cries a lot. Can you provide?
( We can offer one small, supportive brother figure! I’m not sure if we can define him as wholesome– morals leaning to grayer area and missing an arm, don’t ask him to carry too many thing –but he’s definitely a good shoulder to cry on and will remain loyal to the end~. )

“I wasn’t complaining,” Lin explained, looking up at the very large man. “I’ve found meaning. Keeping my city and the people safe, and I think that counts for something. And believe me, I’ve had plenty of things happening,” she added, folding her arms. “As I trust you have as well.
And of course I know what cause and effect means, I’m not a moron!” the chief continued, letting out a quiet snort. “I just mean... You know what, forget it, I don’t know what I meant myself.”

More often than not, people generally perceive Wolfwood in whichever way he wants them to- usually either the bumbling, shitty priest persona or (less often) the child-soldier-turned-killing-machine. It’s rare that he lets someone see both sides, as he prefers to be seen as harmless, if an asshole. It’s better to be underestimated.
The biggest exception, however, is Vash. One thing that’s notable about both these two idiots is how quickly they’re able to see through each other’s bullshit. Another exception is Livio, since he’s seen both sides at his best and his worst.
Nicholas’ perception of himself, on the other hand, is actually pretty negative. While he has high self-confidence, fairly high self-image, and knows he can get shit done and get it done well, his sense of self-worth is almost non-existent. His body is nothing more than a tool. His life, nothing more than a bargaining chip at best.
Years of being systematically dehumanized in the Eye of Michael have taken a toll.
He’s done horrible things; murder, theft, mass slaughter, and treason to name a few. Mostly out of a need to survive or protect others, but he also knows that’s no excuse. Despite his horrible job of acting like a priest, he does believe in Heaven and Hell, and is thoroughly convinced he’s going to the latter, and he’s going there soon. This terrifies him, but if it means saving people he cares about, then it’s worth it.
Similarly, one way he WANTS Vash to perceive him is the way he perceives himself. The Devil’s advocate. A monster. A killer. Someone Vash SHOULD hate. But as stated before, Vash is able to see through this and see the broken, desperate man inside, and this is something Wolfwood just does not want to face, but he’s slowly starting to come around.
Catches you mid flight, but this time, gently slam dunks you into the recycling bin where you belong.
Well…I can deal with this. Please take me out though.

“… You’re probably the first person who has ever said that. It pisses me off. What do you think gives you the right to call someone out like that? You don’t know me, or my story. I could be just having a bad day, and you’re willing to make a gamble at my world being a mess.”
“What’s your problem, man?”
At first he felt a TINY bit proud of what he said, but the second the taller man continued he immediately lost any good feeling that sat inside him. To be fair the joke should have been made with a lighter tone… hah.
“Oh…it was a JOKE…sorry, man.”
