Tolkien Party Tag 2021
1. Aragorn: Favorite Tolkien hero/heroine
Frodo Baggins. He's my hero. I love all the other hobbits a lot too and all of them are the best heroes ever but he is definitely my favorite. He endured so much and pretty much saved Middle-earth, with help, of course. I love him so much. ❤️
2. Boromir: Favorite Tolkien character arc
I think Bilbo's might be my favorite. I love all of the other hobbits' arcs A LOT too but something about Bilbo's arc makes him especially relatable to me. I just love the way he finds strength to overcome the obstacles and setbacks on his adventure and how he finds courage, which proves the most unlikely person can be a hero. Like Gandalf said, "he gives me courage", he assures me that I'll be able to deal with all hardships in my life and anything I'm fearful of (which is pretty much everything) and, most importantly, that I'll be fine. His arc and character are just very comforting to me, since fear is a recurring theme in my life.
All of the other hobbits find courage in their own way too and they are relatable in a similar way, which makes it incredibly hard to choose. I'd like to pick all of them as my favorites.
Éowyn's and Aragorn's arcs have a certain beauty to them that I love as well.
I'm pretty sure I like everyone's arc. 😄
3. Frodo: Favorite song or poem by Tolkien
The Road Goes Ever On and all its variations (I got it on a quiz once, I was so happy cause it's my absolute fave 😆).
Other favorites include A Walking Song, I Sit Beside the Fire and Think, Journey's End and the Verse of the Rings (it's just so iconic).
So nice you picked Frodo for this question. ☺️
4. Gandalf: Favorite wise Tolkien quotation
"Courage is found in unlikely places".
Also, this exchange between Gandalf and Galadriel from An Unexpected Journey, it's not Tolkien's but I just love it and it pretty much sums up one of my favorite themes of Tolkien's fiction:
"Mithrandir, why the halfling?"
"I don't know. Saruman believes that it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I found. I found that it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay… Small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid and he gives me courage".
5. Gimli: A Middle-earth location you'd like to visit
The Shire obviously. 😍 Particularly Hobbiton.
6. Legolas: Favorite Middle-earth Weapon
Sting, no contest. It's basically my favorite weapon ever. I also like Legolas' bow of the Galadhrim and Andúril.
7. Merry: Favorite way to celebrate Tolkien's stories
This yearly Tolkien party, really!
8. Pippin: Favorite funny Tolkien quotation
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve". A classic. 👌
Also this little bit which I've always loved from when Lobelia calls Frodo a Brandybuck at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring and he has this nice exchange with Merry:
"Did you hear that, Merry? That was an insult, if you like".
"It was a compliment, and so, of course, not true".
And I found this quote from the foreword of The Fellowship of the Ring quite funny too:
“Some who have read the book, or at any rate have reviewed it, have found it boring, absurd, or contemptible; and I have no cause to complain, since I have similar opinions of their works, or of the kinds of writing that they evidently prefer.”
It is also so relatable. 😄
9. Samwise: A Middle-earth food you'd like to try
Farmer Maggot's mushrooms, I'd like to check if they are as delicious as the hobbits say. 😊 Oh and the Gaffer's taters. 😉
I just realized how much I love answering little Tolkien-related questions like this. I missed it. I love this year's tag and the nine theme. ♥
