Fanfic Spotlight: Rise of the Red Hood | TheFightingBull

Have I mentioned I love Jason Todd homecoming stories? I LOVE them and really enjoyed the ride here. First, this story is a beast that demonstrates the complexity of Jason's rise, anger, and redemption. He is heinous is this retelling with his body count high, but with the same terrors and anxieties underneath. I really enjoyed how this story was written, for a story that's this long to be this engaging is just amazing. I've stayed up reading chapters until I literally fell asleep.

Also the tag 'Jason and his gruff disreputable older men who clearly love him' is an amazing tag.

Author's description: A new vigilante has started to stalk the criminals of Gotham and unlike the Bat, he's ending them where they stand. Batman is trying to team up with Nightwing to put the serial killer behind bars but between his own ailments, Dick's distraction with a mysterious and foul-mouthed young man named JT Bennet, and Tim's constant interrogations he's not sure he'll survive this investigation. (This story contains some canon but does not follow it. I cannot warn enough that this story is NOT canon compliant and because of this some characters will be a little OOC. Dick Grayson is GCPD instead of Bludhaven because I didn't like the man he became once he moved there. Other stuff changes to fit my story line. This is a male on male slash story with some explicit content.)

☕️ I believe Jason Todd couldn’t find a better match than Slade Wilson.

Do you mean in combat? Slade would absolutely wipe the floor with Jason. Well, not really. Jason would put up a good fight and give Slade a run for his money if they're both armored and properly armed, but Jason is no match for Slade.

Professionally, they would get along very well. But Slade would have to keep his contracts to people who truly deserve it.

Romantically, however, I totally agree! Slade and Jason together make such beautiful couple! Whether it's casual or serious.

Can I ask you the same questions about Loki? I know he’s a favorite but I was curious how it all began, lol

Ahh, yes, it all began long ago in the year 2011 when the first Thor came to our collective eyeballs.

(I’m going with MCU Loki in this one since my comic Loki experience is a bit different) 

First impression: Zero chill, wants a hug but won’t say it, was raised on a bunch of lies, super hardcore loves his bro but would never admit it to anyone (even to himself, really) but also really jealous of Thor. Hates being left behind.

Impression now: Still needs to chill but mellower, is a very multilayered character. He is a chaotic character for sure and is never wholly good or bad. Definitely in it for his own gains but when it comes right down to it (Thor) he will do what is right (for Thor). LOVES HIS MAMA!!!!Favorite moment: this is hard AF because there are many, but I think one of my favourite moments is when Loki notices Thor for the first time on Sakkar in Ragnarok and they’re bickering. It’s peak sibling dynamics there and it really shows what they were probably like together growing up. Then, of course, Loki confronting Tony Stark in The Avengers.

Unpopular opinion: IDK if it’s ‘unpopular’ unpopular, but I truly believe he wasn’t mind-controlled in The Avengers. I think he was influenced by the mind stone, but he still could make his own decisions ect. Even if they were made for all the wrong reasons and the fear of Thanos behind them. Also, his eyes were blue the whole time in the movie because Hiddleston’s are blue.

Favorite relationship: Thor. No matter what you cannot have Loki without Thor and Thor without Loki. They are so intertwined as characters that it’s insane and whether you ship them together in that fashion or don’t, you cannot deny that their stories revolve around so much of each other because of what they’ve been through. It’s such a complex and layered relationship, one of the best I’ve ever seen between two characters.

Favorite headcanon: While Thor is stupid smart and can keep up with Loki, I like to believe that during their lessons growing up that Thor would quietly go to Loki and ask him for help if he didn’t understand a question for his assignment or needed help practising learning another language. Loki would pretend to be too good to help him out but he always does because he likes just spending these quiet moments with his bro.

If you had to chose to only write one pairing in any fandom for the rest of ever, which would you choose and why?

Probably BruJay. There’s so many ways you could diversify it as a pairing. From the most angsty of angst to the fluffiest of fluff and that’s without even hitting real AU. The sheer variety you could get out of it would be the reason I would pick it if I could only write one for the rest of ever.

Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

Hey hon. I actually answered that to the best of my ability in Scan’s ask here. 

Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

Almost always out of order. There’s usually a scene toward the end of a story that comes to me first that I have to get out before I can do anything else. I start there and backtrack. In the case of some fics, the longer ones like If I Told You, Carry Me Home, and Your Name in My Teeth, there were actually several scenes I wrote out of order and had to weave together as I go. Sometimes it requires a bit of rewriting and editing, though the most I’ve had to rewrite a scene was the final scene in Teeth. It was the second scene I wrote and the whole fic took on a darker tone as the story went, leading to some tonal changes in the final product that had to be accounted for. 

If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

I have two answers to this. One, since I started writing Batfam and one just in reference to what I have posted on AO3

There Beneath, hands down. I wrote it for the Batfam Christmas Stocking last year. I wound up being rushed because I didn’t have tons of ideas for it and my hands were a little tied because I wasn’t sure what counted on the giftee’s DON’Ts for what so I feel like important emotional impact got left out. I’d like to redo it sometime. It deserves a second look.

Shadows Hide is a Dragon Age II WIP that I started in my freshman year of college I’d like to go back and finish sometime. I wrote it in a fever pitch when I was very sick over my Christmas break. I know where I was going with it and what I wanted to do with it but I kind of lost interest/time.
