Celebrating & remembering Carolyn Cassady who was born this day in Lansing MI, 1923. In a roundabout way, Carolyn was the reason Allen moved west to San Francisco, since she brought Neal with her, settling in Los Gatos, inducing Allen to follow. And within a few short years in the Bay Area, Allen wrote Howl, America, Sun Flower Sutra, & read with the Six Gallery poets and published his first collection of poetry. Carolyn was never terribly fond of Allen, took no pleasure in his affairs with Neal, but they remained life long friends.
