The Flash S03E07 - Killer Frost Review
Three plotlines I would like to address are:
Team Flash Vs Savitar & Dr Alchemy:
o When we ended the previous episode The Flash was cornered/being held by a thing calling itself ‘Savitar’ AKA The God of Speed. Now if we thought the Reverse-Flash or Zoom were fast Savitar clearly show us we don’t know what fast is, he speeds off with The Flash and makes a clear indication that his speed is more than we can comprehend (Have to give props to the visual effects guys cause this episode was the most visually stunning episode of the season so far). When everyone sees Barry struggling against Savitar, Iris asks Cisco and Caitlin to interfere and save Barry they try to object but they do it anyway even though we all know that Caitlin using her powers is NOT a good idea (Duh! The episode is called ‘Killer Frost’). They save Barry from Savitar but we are left incomplete from that interaction making me think that we are going to see Savitar again really soon.
The Flash Vs Killer Frost & Reverb:
o Now this episode was centred by Caitlin but a part of me thought this episode is here to show us the clear cracks in the friendship/work group that we have come to know as Team Flash. This is an episode where we needed someone to take charge and bark orders to everyone (Which used to be Harrison’s job but this one is getting on my nerves with his lack of knowledge) but since Wally is trapped in that cocoon-thing (BTW what was up with that anyway?) everyone’s initiative/pragmatism/big-picture-seeing is sort of lacking this allows for holes in judgement and decision making made by the team. Starting off with Caitlin’s Killer Frost nature taking over her and taking Julian hostage, everyone is in a hurry to find her and when they do they start to realise that capturing her may not be the end of the problems with Caitlin. When The Flash confronts Caitlin about kidnapping Julian, she starts to expose secrets that Barry had told her, knowing the rest of the team will be listening, one of which shakes Cisco: Before Barry created Flashpoint, his brother Dante was alive and well. Meaning that when Barry messed up the timeline he ‘killed’ Dante in the process. Caitlin (Killer Frost) gets away and Team Flash (minus Caitlin & Wally) are left to lick their wounds. The team finds Caitlin again and a part of me wants that fight that Cisco saw in the future (Reverb Vs Killer Frost) to occur but I think that’s too premature and neither are on that level yet. They are able to capture Killer Frost but she is so cold hearted that they lock her away. Barry tries to talk to Cisco but he too is cold so he goes to wallow in self-pity, there Iris comforts him that he made mistakes and that’s part of being human and also that Dante didn’t die at the hands of a meta but in a car accident which is clearly out of Barry’s control and whether he messed with the timeline that death could have happened anyway.
Kid Flash:
o Joe takes it upon himself to get Wally out of the cocoon thing, with an assist from Harrison, they are able to get him out but he is clearly messed up and speeds off. Everyone tries to track him but what is the point of finding him if none of them knows how to help him get out of the daze he is in. So Barry realises they need a Biochemist (AKA Caitlin Snow) now I thought they might call on Julian for help may be solidifying his input in the team but Barry takes another route and tries to talk down Killer Frost. He is able to appeal to the Dr Caitlin Snow within and she helps create a serum that they use on Wally. Wally is now a speedster!! Happy Days right? I don’t think so. A part of me thinks it’s not going to last forever or Wally might now be under the command of Dr Alchemy/Savitar. Both are not happy futures but it’s still amazing to have so many good speedsters this season (Jay Garrick, Kid Flash & Jesse Quick) to balance out the nasty ones we’ve come across in the past (Reverse-Flash, Zoom & Trajectory).
Conclusion:
So Julian is Dr Alchemy. Big shock. What I want to know is that if he is Dr Alchemy, is he really Julian Alpert? Or is he just one of many incarnations of Dr Alchemy? Why does Julian hate metas so much if he is Dr Alchemy? Does he not have his own powers? And now that he has got the lab to himself (Getting Barry to quit in exchange for keeping quiet about Caitlin) are we going to FINALLY see what the show has done in the past: Showing us Team Flash life and simultaneously what the villain is up to? Cause without the interchange the show has become quite mushy. I liked this episode, again I feel like these episodes have been filler episodes until we get a good interaction with the bad guy like the ones leading up to the appearance of Zoom in the second season. That being said definitely the most visually pleasing episode so far.
