I have been completely and utterly CONSUMED by the Billy Batson brainworm (heh, brain worm MISTER MIND?!?), so I decided I needed something physical to represent my appreciation for our little scrimblo.
Having come to this realization, I decided to make a T-shirt. My library has a craft space with a heat press and Cricut machine, so I'll just have to get the shirt myself.
NOTES FOR THE FRONT:
- I don't think Whiz has a canon frequency, so I decided it should be the release date of the first Captain Marvel comic (Whiz Comics #2) which is 1940. But, 1940 isn't within the plausible AM frequencies (530-1700 kHz), so I made it 940 kHz with the notch in the "M" of AM (which also matches the font I chose for "Radio").
- The WCMV call sign has the "CM" for Captain Marvel.
- The "Whiz" part was made by rearranging (and flipping) some of the classic SHAZAM! lettering. Someone on Reddit said I should've used the original Whiz Comics cover page lettering, but I like this better. It's my shirt, I do what I want.
- And lastly, the whole thing's in a cartoon exclamation bubble.
NOTES FOR THE BACK:
- I love Billy being a radio host. Let that sweet, adorable, whimsical gremlin be employed at 10 years old and control the radio waves!
- Billy's show being called "Power Hour" is a reference to "The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam!" from the 80s (I'm pretty sure that's where the SHAZAM! lettering is from, actually).
- I made the air time 4 PM because that's after school hours. Whether Billy's going to school or not, I think a lot of kids would want to listen to the show (and 4 PM gives him an hour or two before people start eating dinner and stop listening).
- Then finally, CDT is Central Daylight Time/Wisconsin's time zone.
I haven't made the t-shirt yet because FOR SOME REASON both Michael's locations in my area have been sold out of maroon shirts for the past two weeks (I'm losing my mind, y'all).
I really want to have this for when I leave for college on Friday, so I just decided to bite the bullet and order a two pack online for like $11. It should get here by Wednesday (I'm on my knees praying, Lord), so fingers crossed!
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
I just watched "The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam!" episode 2 while writing this out, and y'all. Why was it actually peak!? Like not amazing animation obviously, but the writing was funny and the plot was wild.
I was concerned at first cuz it started with the "that was great FOR A GIRL" joke, but everything was fine. And then Freddy came in clutch, and Mister Mind raised an army of earthworms, like what?
My sister walked in and called it all boring, and I was like, "Girl, what part of Uncle Dudley and Talky Tawny's existences and earthworm armies is boring to you!?"
ANYWAYS! I'll make an update with a picture of the actual shirt once I can make it, so stay tuned! ;)
