darry only seeing how similar they are and not understand how pony could think he doesnt fit (autism) and pony only seeing how different he is from his brothers and he doesn’t get how darry just ‘pretends’ like nothings different (also autism). oh my GOD. and and it all comes to a head when darry’s pleading with pony to stop just idly dying in front of them “we lost mom and we lost dad but i’ll be damned if we’re gonna lose you too” and the way that just??? hits so fucking different for pony in that moment because ever since they’re parents died he’s never been able to stop that lurking feel he doesn’t belong. and then darry says i love you and it ain’t just a saying he throws in because he’s said it for years, it’s a statement he thought out and meant so deeply and pony just breaks cause all these months, he’s convinced himself darry didn’t love him. through his grief and darry’s grief and pony’s own self doubt, he was so sure darry was just waiting to send him away or only holding onto him for ‘his’ (their) dead parents. when truthfully darry laid eyes on that tiny 6 year old with bruises and sunken eyes and he promised to protect and love his baby brother forever

absolutely love the concept of Edwin and Charles still referring to themselves as best mates after the revelation of their feelings. They’re not boyfriends, they’re sometimes partners, but they are always best mates. And they love each other in every sense of the word, platonically and otherwise. sometimes they kiss and hold hands because that’s just what you do when you love someone so much that you need to let it out, to let them know.
