Albrecht had been on horseback for what felt like an eternity. Like his neighbors the weather had turned its back on him as well and had gifted him with warm summer rains - that froze him to the core once they were combined with the windchill.
Albrecht felt like every mile had taken one of his muscles and turned it into pulp. His knees were weak, he was exhausted, and his lungs were on fire - but he had made it.
He had made it out of his occupied city and to Vienna, over 250 miles away.
The Austrians were not his allies per se. Or rather Albrecht was not sure.
Alliances had changed so quickly throughout the last few years that he had failed to keep up with everything. He had been neutral, as far as he remembered. The Prussians seemed to have read different documents.
Albrecht had stolen a horse and fled the city.
He had gone to the east and had then found himself in Bohemia, in the middle of nowhere. Vienna seemed to be the most obvious choice to turn to for help. After all it was the Austrians the Prussians wanted to get at - by making Saxony their private parade ground.
The Electorate looked like a mess, wet streaks of blond hair sticking to his face and dirt covering his hands, elbows, and knees. If Albrecht could have seen himself he would have been disgusted - this was really no way to show up at a foreign court.
The look on Anneliese’s face seemed to say the same.
“Please, Österreich, help me.”
