Just a Dream - FMA One-Shot
Rain tapped against the slanted roof and into the thirsty ground below. Wind shook the trees, causing the branches to tap against glass. There was no sight of moonlight, leaving the wet world outside dark and mysterious.
Light flashed as the rain began to fall harder, and was shortly followed by a clap of thunder that nearly shook the two-storied houses’ foundation. The metal fireplace grate that protected the world from the embers within fell over with a loud clang.
Edward Elric’s tired golden eyes opened as his breath hitched. He sat up like a shot, his voice cracking out, “Alphonse!”
Ed was covered in sweat as he tried to catch his breath. Lightning flashed again, revealing he was in his room, in bed. He stared at his shaking right, flesh covered hand, and realized he was not currently covered in his own blood. He quickly covered his mouth when he felt part of the bed shift, realizing what he had done.
“Ed?” A craggy voice moaned from a pile of pillows and blankets, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing Win, go back to sleep.” Ed sighed, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He stood from the bed slowly, trying with every fiber of his being not to wake Winry further. He shoved his left foot into a slipper in an attempt to quiet the clunk of automail when he walked. He placed the grate back into position in front of the fireplace before leaving the bedroom.
He wasn’t going back to sleep any time soon, he might as well treat himself to an apple pie Winry had made the day before.
