Just when you thought you’d seen all the yoga.....

...you find a class that rocks your world and completely surprises you in the happiest of ways.  

Recently, I had the good fortune to visit Asheville, NC.  If you’ve never been and you love yoga, you should go.  If you’ve never been and you love food, good people or breweries, you should go.  

I researched yoga studios to find a class that would provide good vacation fun and boy did I hit the jackpot.  I took Star Projector Yoga​ at The Little Volcano ( @little-volcano) in Ashevlle, NC.  

Here are some highlights...

Awesome instructor: Have you taken a yin yoga class before? 

Me: Yeah and I kinda suck because my mind wanders.  

Awesome instructor: Oh, this isn’t your typical yin yoga class.  You’ll be fine.  

<star projector turns on and the X-Files theme starts playing>

Me <in my inside voice>: Clearly, I am in the right place.  Stars on the ceiling, stuffed unicorns on the floor and one of the great nerd anthems of all time playing?  Yes, I have found my home away from home.    

The instructor then provides a topic and that night’s was “One Night Stands.”  I was a li’l timid to share any stories about myself, but I enjoyed listening to all of the wild stories while holding therapeutic poses.  So much laughter!  I’d tell you the stories, but what happens at Star Projector Yoga stays at Star Projector Yoga.  There was also something really special about the people there and the environment itself.  I instantly felt safe which is rare for my introverted yogi self.

I have been struggling trying to figure out what my voice will be as a yoga teacher.  This class taught me that there’s truly yoga for everyone.  Injecting humor, fun and playtime into yoga are not taboo if it’s true to you.  I hope that people find peace of mind and body from my classes one day, but that may be through laughter more than anything else!
