can someone cast deborah aryorinde and ayo edibiri as sisters in something please they look so fuckin alike it’s wild
the problem with #them is that it allows white people to look at it and go 'oh that's all over now and that kind of racism doesn't exist anymore' and pat themselves on the back and consider themselves good allies. it allows them to distance themselves from racism and view it as an other and not something all of them benefit from, and willingly or not participate in. like the main review of it i've seen calling it, #them is pure degradation porn.
also it's quite interesting how it's always easy to find roles for darkskinned women when they wanna portray us in torture scenes and extreme brutality but soft feminine roles, and roles where black women are loved on, they quick as fuck to cast a lightskinned girl, a lightskinned biracial - bc you could be biracial and dark skinned - or someone racially ambiguous.
it's not slick, it's not cute and it's not funny. it's disgusting and it's tired.
i'm sick and tired of whenever there being a role for a girl who looks like me, she's either confined to being the magical negro, the mammy, the sassy best friend, sidelined if she's a main character, or subject to gruesome and explicit forms of sexual assault - which the woman in #them is in episode 5.
i am so damn tired of it and so damn tired of the white creators who feed this shit to us - there were black producers but the writers were white; you could see that they were, not to say that there aren't black creators feeding us this shit too but this ain't about them atm. this shit whether in adult fiction or kids fiction is contributing to fucking up the mental health of dark skinned girls and women everywhere. for dark skinned girls who aren't secure enough in their blackness, this only feeds the self hatred because we get that colorist bullshit from our own people, and we're looked at as monsters from people outside our own race even worse because we're the darker shades of black.
it's so fucking triggering and needs to fucking stop.
(white people can reblog but don't clown)
Them(2021) an Amazon orginal
Don’t watch this. Just move on not worth it
Shit storytelling
Shit writing
Pointless characters and plot threads ( by far worst one is racist Karen that goes nowhere with her hatred, gets kidnapped by a simp, and dies by him.)
Extreme violence because you know if we talking racism gotta show extreme violence :D
Ending is trash, spoiler family just walks outside their house with cops pointing guns at them fades to black.
Piss poor knock off of Us. As a black person I found no good qualities expect for TWO scenes that barely lasted to be enjoyed. Just never ending trauma pain ride
If still wish watch this trainwreck of a show avoid episode 5 and 6 because it serves nothing but torture porn upon black people and a child(s)
I hate everything about Them. The cast deserve better. This show will be in golden globe because feeling bad for black people media is an easy win in Hollywood. If this show gets an reward it goes directly to the cast and crew make-up/stylist and props of the setting. Fuck the writers they deserve NOTHING
0/10 show will never watch again.
I have zero problems with black horror featuring racism if it can be done right. This wasn’t. This could’ve been such good story about mental illness and grief within black families but even that got screwed up because nobody bothered to consult anyone else besides the producer who’s black but even they had no part of writing staff expect for episode 5 ( the worst episode). I never felt so bored, angry, and disgusted by a show and I tend handle extreme fictional content. I cared for no one especially the black family. For show that supposedly for me a black woman I felt zero of that.
Watch Us and His House. Both are good black horror movies that don’t even focus on racism. Just fun horror ideas that had black leads telling fun messages. I need watch some cooking shows to destress myself
I remember when a random trailer for that movie Fatale started playing and they were using a strip down version. Of K-Ci & Jojo's All my life. It did not have the effect they thought it would have because I was laughing. Then I was bored
I got 5 on it by Luniz being remixed to sound scary and sinister for the movie Us was good it was unexpected they added more strings and only used a few lyrics "creep on in"
I just want everyone to get off of Jordan Peele's dick stop trying to ride on his coat tails thinking you can replicate the same success without the creativity just stop
In 1919 after an altercation between four men left a White sheriff dead. All chaos ensued and a small massacre in a Black town was carried out by ..... you guessed it ....a mob of angry White men.
This Black family was on their way to a festival. I just think about how Black people historically ( despite their history of intense trauma ) still tried enjoy life, be human, grow, evolve, progress, and create a legacy for their family’s. And I think of how Whiteness never allowed or allows that. To be Black in America is to have your humanity constantly interrupted.
I don’t need to watch “THEM” on Amazon video ... I am all too familiar with them and what they do.
Ok I have made up my mind after watching Them again. The first time was hard to swallow, but the second time there were some points that hit and I have to say story wise Them is Better than US because US had no trauma that made the payoff at the end worth it. As for Them Vs LCC lore and pacing wise LCC is slightly better but story wise Them is way better because it spoke about real black trauma and how Pioneering was really dangerous I don’t think Ep3 of LCC hit that note hard enough because I don’t think they understood history well enough to know just how dangerous pioneering was and the lengths that white society did to kick them out. Now I know ep5 was fucked up but that needed to be shown and I don’t EVER SUPPORT THE SEXUAL ASSAULT OF ANY WOMAN but that scene was an everyday Thing for black folks and I think it’s something us black folks today and our freedom take for granted. Now LCC racism wasn’t on the nose for me when it came to Christina’s “racism” vs Betty’s as Betty was a rotten ass character. Also too there were a lot of satisfying parts when Betty got slapped by Luck, and when the father shot that corrupted Cop. Yet Them was better than US too because it broke down each members trauma The father and his trauma with WW11 the mother and her rape and killing of her baby, Ruby Lee’s self hatred and her to want to be white as she was the only black girl in her white school and there was lil Gracies trauma from being scared of her own mother because she couldn’t understand that her mother was broken after that trauma. Yet the part I loved when that’s strong ass Luck got her beautiful chocolate self up to save her family this was BLACK LOVE, not some false sense of it like LCC put out. But imma save the rest of my breaks downs for my You Tube Video.
