Constellations - otp: when you smile. Fierce - otp: courting pageantry and dad jokes
26. Constellations
They were all different here.
Shiro knew a handful of constellations for the sake of navigation. Even humanity’s relatively primitive nav systems did that sort of work for you, but he took comfort in at least a basic sense of direction. Simon knew a few more out of pure interest, a delight in stars they’d always had. But there were no familiar patterns now, and no sign of what angle might reveal them.
So Simon and Shiro made up their own. It was like a private language between them. They lay side by side on the observation deck and found their own way. Some were jokes (one glowing spray of stars they called Lunch because of the time some friendly sparring had caused Hunk to spill an entire tray of something salad-like), but some were important.
Anywhere they were, for instance, Simon could pinpoint the waving line of violet-tinted stars that made them think of Shiro.
18. Fierce
As the resident morale-boosters and makers of puns, it wasn’t a side they often showed others. But they both recognized it in each other.
Zabeth was careful and playful, but she had gotten her combat knowledge from somewhere, somewhere that had made her hard and fast and precise. Behind her desire to protect was ability. Behind any worry and sternness was a time she had seen someone fall.
But only Allura had lost as much as Coran, who had seen years of war even before the empire. He was the sort of man who possibly didn’t fear anything besides losing what he had left.
The two of them knew, even if no one else did; they knew that if it came down to saving the team, if someone had to be terrible and efficient, Zabeth and Coran could be counted on to do it.
