Whats your most anticipated sequel for 2020? For me one would be #thefaithlesshawk. I recently read #themercifulcrow by #Margaretowen and found it to be a really intriguing story. I loved the cast and magic systems. Its ond of those titles that would make for a really cool screen adaptation. ........................................................................ #bookaholic #bookstamums #anticipatedreads #creativebookphotography #books #bookstagram #Booknerd #BooksofInstagram #bookwormsofInstagram #BooksofIG #BooksandFlowers #Bookstagramer #bookworm #Bookblog #bookpics #bibliophile #bookaddict #booklife #bookphotography #reader #readerforlife#bookaholic #booklover #bookaesthetic#ilovebooks #ilovereading https://www.instagram.com/p/B8W5Ij0AbSm/?igshid=soqhm22zmvaa

Title: The Merciful Crow
Author: Margaret Owen
Rating: 4,5/5
I have to be honest - the thing that bought me on The Merciful Crow was the promise that there will be no love triangle and that one of the characters is gay. And I’m glad it did because otherwise, I would probably miss out on this amazing book.
When Fie and her band of crows take two plague-infected bodies from the royal palace for the first time in five hundred years, she doesn’t expect how her life will change from now on. Soon, she finds herself traveling alongside the not so dead prince and his royal guard to fulfill an oath that could forever change her people's’ lives for better.
The plot is a simple “characters need to get from point A to point B while being chased by their enemies” trope but together with the amazing worldbuilding it’s a pleasure to explore the world along with the characters. I absolutely love the idea of Crows being able to steal the Birthrights of other castes and it’s amazing how the other Castes don’t see how overpowered it makes them. The idea for the magic system is great and unique. The discrimination the Crows face feels real and rooted in their everyday lives and it’s not something that is talked about but pictured only with a few examples during the book. The way Tavin and Jasimir are learning to understand and acknowledge that discrimination is also pictured very nicely.
I greatly enjoyed the characters and the dynamics between them. I liked how strong of a character and leader Fie was while not being completely emotionless. I loved Tavin standing up for the Crows, seeing and acknowledging the prejudice they faced, even defending them from his best friend and prince. I also appreciated how complex of a character Jasimir was and how his dislike for Fie was coming from his own issues and how long it took for them to actually start liking each other and working together. I’m a sucker for the found family trope and Fie traveling with her two fake Crows just made me really happy.
I had one problem with the book and that some wording was archaic and it made it confusing for me to read. I’m not a native speaker and I needed a few chapters to get used to some words and grammar but when I did, the novel was very pleasant to read.
All in all, “The Merciful Crow” is a great novel with in-depth worldbuilding and complex characters with wonderfully built relationships. If you’re hungry for some unique YA fantasy, definitely give this book a try!
