The Midnight Ride is the first book I've read from Ben Mezrich. "Hailey finds a hotel room to hide in while she's running from Casino security. But there's a dead guy in it. Nick was supposed to meet the guy about fencing some stolen paintings - the ones from the Gardner Museum robbery many years ago. They both flee and head to where the paintings are being kept. The guards are dead and the paintings are dead but they gain possession of the finial from Napoleon's flag. Something on the finial sends them across Boston looking for clues left behind by Paul Revere. Can they stay ahead of the bad guys and the police?" This book is National Treasure meets Dan Brown meets Red Sparrow. There are prominent figures and places in American history and some early America cryptography. The book is relatively fast-paced. If you like those elements you will probably like this book. If you watch the documentary on the Gardner Museum Art Heist, you will have a greater appreciation for that part of the story. One part I didn't like - there's a cliffhanger. I'm not a fan. I prefer books to have endings.
